EDIT: Got it, thanks.

So hey guys, um... Don't take this the wrong way, please, but I was wondering if there were any sort of 'tips' or 'tricks' concerning character creation - specifically, ways to perhaps build a creature outside of the normal limitations? In a totally legit way, of course.

I don't mean like "I WANT TO MAKE A SUPER INSECT WITH 99999 HP AND A MILLION FEET TALL WITH FIVE HUNDRED LEGS."

I just want to make something that looks a little less derpy. I love this game, but I haaaaaaate the derpy characters. :( I made these really cute little midget owl things with no legs, once. They were almost Tribbles. But due to the game's limitations, I couldn't completely get rid of their legs, nor get them low enough to the ground to pretend they didn't have legs, and the game wouldn't accept such an unorthodox body anyway. I don't care how it would butcher its stats, I just want a race of Tribbles, damnit!

I tried making Tribbles but it was impossible to play them due to low hp, low eye height and low head height. I mean, the game prevented me from playing them. Which makes sense, you can't really build anything or really evolve to sentience as a Tribble species...

I think that you can make some pretty decent species if you really try though. Mine is a 6 legged insect with arms and wings. (I don't know what is causing the weird glitch with the wing texture though. It doesnt always happen.)

There are two pieces of software that you all might find useful, if you aren't using them already.  The first is Hazeron Scouter, which compiles system scan reports, and allows you to search all scanned systems for resource types.

The second is a fix for the broken galaxy viewer, which can be found here.

Q226 ore isn't all that uncommon. Just from the small area I've scouted there are 34 systems with at least that quality ore or above. And I've only scouted 42 systems, so that's almost all of them.

Believe me, you're just incredibly, disgustingly lucky. Make sure you colonize those systems before they decay!

Best resource I've found so far is Q231 air. Lucky bastards...

The air is on one of the colonies, not the homeworld. And since it's an outer world with an average wind speed of 63mph or so, wind power should suffice.

That account is from the EMERGENCY WAR TAXES. I taxed them from everyone after reclaiming the capital, and declaring that declaring war on me was an emergency worth re-appropriating from the banks over. (After waiting for them to remember their loyalty, of course.)

Which has been funding our wonderful warship research.  Also, the abandoned Cake colonies are now ours.

Too bad you cannot just artificially create perfect air.

Yeah, I've never understood how water, hydrogen or air can have 'quality levels'. Isn't it supposed to be purified anyway?
