Here's a song by Muslim Magomaev, one of my favourite Soviet singers.

By the way, Melnitsa isn't technically a folk band, Russian folk songs sound nothing like this. Melnitsa produces songs similar to any medieval-esque ballads from any Western fantasy movie or game. She used to be a part of the Russian Tolkien fandom in the 1990s, if I recall correctly.

By folk band I meant a kind of band that perform their or someone else's national folk music.

Speaking of Soviet music. Thre was a war anthem, called Sacred War. It inspires me every time I listen to it. Not like I'm thirsting for Axis' blood, just fills me with inspiration. Actually, I'm listening to it each time I wat to get inspired.

Speaking of russian folk and tolkien fandom. Yovin has two songs I like. And one more by Bashnya (russian for "tower") Rowan. All of those are mostly for lyrics. And one more something.

Dammit, that was wierd. I was just like "Youtube, give me what you have under name Good morning, Vietnam!" And youtube was like "Maybe you would listen to something more... peaceful?"

A correction - Melnitsa's the band. Helavisa's the frontwoman. There's a distinction.

TBH, I'm not sure how does his music sound this days, just few weeks ago I've discovered that the guy's actually still active. But back few years ago, when I first heard him...well, he's just awesome.
Though somehow different if I compare him to, say, Nullsleep or Anamanaguchi, at least from what little I've heard from them. Dunno, hard to explain why...

And for the record, I too learned Russian, though just for a short time. I'd love to learn in again, as I find it to be very pleasant-sounding to my ears. Then again, my first language is part of Slavic language family, so maybe that's why.

E: Apparently it's 120 years ago that Adolf Sax died this Tuesday, so a radio station here in Belgium (Studio Brussel) is going to do a top 50 list of best Saxophone songs which I think is pretty cool.

So there's this local folk-pop band, Wild Child, that's supposedly getting popular, according to my local newspapers, which totally wouldn't be biased.

They seem pretty cool, although they sound kinda similar to Of Monsters and Men. Must be that folk-pop sound, I guess. Favorite song of theirs would be The Tale of You and Me. Seems the most distinctive one on the album.
