This is absolutely beautiful (Fires at midnight - Blackmore's Night). Unfortunately I don't know what genre it is. Something like folk rock per chance?

So Cloudkicker is apparently one dude composing his own post-rock/progressive metal and who releases all of his songs for free download. It's crazy awesome.

Cloudkicker--Seattle
Cloudkicker--Garage Show

It's stuff like this that makes me want to get into writing and recording music in the first place.

Second on Cloudkicker. That stuff is worth a listen.

Rosetta just released their fourth full length album. It's a pay-what-you-like download through Bandcamp. Just listening to it for the first time now and it's already tempting me to go back and pay more.

In other bands-pal-is-obsessed-with news, God Is An Astronaut have released the first single from their next album. It's somewhat different to their old stuff, although you can see where it came from based on their past album and their live performances since adding new members to the band.

At first I didn't like Paramore because "lul they was on Twilight soundtrack ew twatlight lulz"

they are actually really quite good. Some sort of pop-punk rock sound with a crazy good female singer, with vibes of post-rock. There's just something about their singer's voice that is just appealing--there's just this raw emotional sound combined with melodic singing--and she's got the skill to back it up. They're quickly gaining ranks on my "awesome rock bands" list.

Paramore - All I Wanted
Paramore - Let The Flames Begin (live)
Paramore - Use Somebody (Kings of Leon cover)(acoustic and live)
Paramore - My Hero (Foo Fighters cover) (also live)

Not sure if anybody here is into Folkpunk, but I'll give it a shot.
There is 'Andrew Jackson Jihad', for one.
They differ in musical style a bit per song and album, featuring plenty of acoustic and cello, to electric guitar, and even a kazoo at one point. The same goes for it's rhythm, and volume.
As for lyrical content, they're pretty colorful. Many of the songs deal with subjects like depression, bipolar disorder, even a love song from a crystal meth addict to his girlfriend. Even what they cover isn't consistent, they did some of the same genre, and then Hip Hop by Dead Prez.

I guess a better example for this though would be 'the Mountain Goats'.
Pretty much the only remaining 'original' band member is John Darnielle. This band's musical and lyrical style differs a lot, like the previous band, but I guess they're a bit less coarse with their words.

But I prefer AJJ overall. I like the coarseness of it.

Picked up a 2-disc Beatles compilation along with another CD from a '2 for $40' deal yesterday.
It's a pity I'm only really getting into the Beatles at this late stage of proceedings(I never actually listened to any of their songs before this year, to my eternal shame), but right now listening to this (their early stuff) I am too happy to care.

Delightful nostalgia kick. Balance and ruin track, ha. Dunno if it's been posted before... maybe. Either way. It has some umph. Particularly like the part something like 2/3rds to 4/5ths of the way through when it just kinda' laughs and takes the pants off, so to speak.

More music for great justice.

The Two Friends is a pretty great...uh...progressive house...DJ group? I'm unused to calling music groups anything besides bands. Musicians. Techno-progressive-house-mixing musicians.

Anyway. It's good. Very good. It has feels.

This is so retro and so fantastic. Don't even know what specifically makes it so good, it's just good. Must be the black and white footage.  :P
