I thought I'd show off the Astronomy playlist. Being strapped for time by my other classes, my only hours available for Astronomy homework fell between 10 and 12 PM on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. A handy side effect was that I was able to look outside and do some stargazing when assignments required it. (Though I couldn't afford the recommended telescope and therefore had to just stare through my binoculars until I saw Mars. Using a ruler, a plumb line, and compass to calculate angles between the horizon and particular stars, etc.
It was supposed to become really metallic and crazy at the end so that I would remain awake. It's also full of astronomy-things, or at least hilariously awful sci-fi lyrics. The tests each took me about 90 minutes, so this list usually played start to finish. As a special bonus, I'll even show some of the better word salads.
01. Magnum P.I. Theme - Played by astronauts in the mornings on the ISS.
02. Spaceman - Journey
03. United Federation of Planets Anthem - Star Trek TNG
04. Space Stallions Theme
05. Cosmic Revelation - Luca Turilli
Hyperspace to Neptune
Quantum's based multi-cores
Pax atomic starship
cryogenic source
I don't even.
06. Jupiter - Earth, Wind & Fire
07. The Final Countdown - Europe
08. Shining Star - Earth, Wind & Fire
09. Icarus, Borne on Wings of Steel - Kansas
10. Icarus II - Kansas
11. Princes of the Universe - Queen
12. I Belong to the Stars - Rhapsody of Fire
13. By the Light of the Northern Star - Týr
14. Prince of the Starlight - Luca Turilli
Star... light... shine!
FROM THIS GODFORSAKEN PLACE
WHERE THE ENEMY HAS NO FACE
I CALL THE MYSTIC STARLIGHT
15. Dark Comet's Reign - Luca Turilli
And so unexpected came that sad mystic day
no words could have told what now was happening
It! fell! down! quaking! the! Ze!phyr's surface!
blinding the eyes of a thousand dying men
who were looking at it falling right over them
What! seemed! to! be an a!stral! fireball!
was hurling metal, a dark and giant starship
colliding with Zephyr's volcanic grey rocks...
grey rocks!
16. Rider of the Astral Fire - Luca Turilli
FROM THE DUST OF A TIME NOW FORGOTTEN
IT WILL COME THE DESTROYER OF WORLDS
AS THE LEGEND OF THE ANCIENTS
REVEALED WITH ITS WORDS
IT WILL COME FROM THE BLOODY DIMENSION
WHERE DEATH IS A PRESENT FROM GOD
17. Raging Starfire - Rhapsody of Fire (Actually pretty coherent compared to most of their songs. Saved for near-last because awesome.)
18.
Einen Jodler Hör i Gern - Franzl Lang - The best of south German music.
19. War of the Universe - Luca Turilli
Parallax of suns create
geometry of moons unborn
Spread the knowledge of the creatures
between curious there and not
Comets' riders
Astral fighters
Heroes of celestial shores
20. Per Aspera ad Astra March - A German military march by a composer that I don't know.
Per Aspera ad Astra means 'Through hardship to the stars', and is the motto of NASA.
Hopefully I'll be able to continue this tradition during next year's astrophysics class. (Though I wouldn't mind doing during the day, instead.) Anyone happen to have vaguely astronomy related songs to share? This list could use some updating after several months of use.
