I'm starting a succession game of the fortress Omathel, Crushedring. Put your applications and progress in form of a reply.

I've set up the basics of the fort, and almost all of it is made up of red sand, so to make anything using stone, you'll have to make a mining operation somewhere. Panda men roam freely around the fort.

So is that the save file after your turn? Or just to give a sense of the location?
Edit: It's not working... Any idea why? I unzipped it and put it in the saves folder.

Well, I don't know why it won't work. Also, its pretty much the save file after my turn. Go one layer down, you'll find the fortress to the right if you can get it working. Try googling it, as I really don't know much about DF technical support.

I got addicted to DF about three months ago as a result of Boatmurdered, so I'd love to be part of this. BUT: I have no idea how to upload the save file (I don't have a megaupload account), or download and play it, for that matter.

To upload the save file, you go to mega-upload or whatever your going to use to upload the file, put your save file in a Zip folder, and select it to upload wherever you put it on your computer. You don't even need an account, I don't think. As for downloading it, get the game if you haven't already. Download the file I posted a link to and go to whichever folder you put your dwarf fortress stuff in to the data folder where you'll find the save folder. Put it in there and I think it might work. I'm not completely sure, though due to choobakka's posts.

Lol, I should have been more specific. I'm pretty confident in my play abilities. It's the playing someone's save file that I'm unsure about. For example—I seem to be getting a similar problem to what choobakka had. There's a region 7 folder in my save directory, but when I choose to continue game I don't see it as a playable file.
Also, are we recording events in our posts? And is play time a game year, a real day/week, or...?
Thanks for including me in this, sounds like it'll be fun.

By the way, I think it's awesome you put me on the players list thinking I didn't know how to play.

The bottom might shed some light. Have you modded anything? Whether or not you have, it looks like the solution may be to upload your entire save directory. Also, can anyone confirm save files are cross-platform? 'Cause I'm on Linux, and that might be my problem.

I have some experience with Dwarf Fortress, but none with succession games.  Which should make things pretty interesting.  Anyway, I have at least a rudimentary idea of how it works.  So, please, count me in!
