You are a self-trained knight working as a soldier for the local army. Your childhood friend, a squire whose father was the local noble of your town, was the one who proposed running off and becoming soldiers. He knew a bit of blacksmithing, and managed to convince the army to give you both shields and half payment in advance. You didn't see his body, so you assume he's alive. The army being wiped out filled you with anger, hatred, and grief. You'll try to get them a memorial statue when you reach your own country's territory again.
After waking up from the carnage you held your position for as long as you felt you could, and eventually began making your way to the forest. Survivor hunters caught you, and you killed them all quickly, taking valuables so you can afford a place to stay once you reach town. Your father left you a horse and longsword, so getting to the forest wasn't difficult.
You wander around lost for a while, and stumble upon a small forest settling. Only three families appear to live here, and the dominant authority figure approaches you, and asks for your name. You can't risk being caught, so you say your name is Delita, a blatant lie. You are offered a stay, and are woken up in the middle of the night when bandits come to collect a tax. You are hidden where the bandits and their leader can't see you. A bandit is outside your door.
