The Elvish Conquistadors and the Dwarven Jaguar Warrior
« on: April 15, 2011, 07:26:16 pm »

So, I got a couple questions relating to the above topic.

1. The first couple of elven trade caravans had some jaguars. Now I have jaguars. Three females and a male.. but they won't mate. I need many, many jaguars but these don't seem to be into that whole breeding thing. Could it be because I trained them into War Jaguar?

2. War Jaguar. Are they more effective than war dogs?

3. Elves. How thick headed are they? I've brutally killed their last 4 trade caravans, but instead of going to war, they seem intent on giving me stuff. I don't need cloth anymore. Ever. Never. At any point. A cloth-eating monster could come raid my base and I would have cloth left over.

Jaguars, Tigers, and nearly all the big cats will take some time to breed. My earlier fortress was about eleven years old and my jaguars only bred about twice. Keep in mind though they live around 50 years of age. Being war jaguars will not affect anything.

As for the elves, I'm doing the same thing. Killing them and stealing their goods. If you want them to go to war with you, keep selling them wooden crafts every year.

Oh, and yes war jaguars will be much more effective in combat than a war dog.

From what I understand, war animal gives 2X attack strength and hunting animal gives 2X run speed. And jaguars are much stronger than dogs.

Of course they keep trading with you- how else will they get back the 200 wooden piccolos you took from the previous caravans you slaughtered?

Oh wait... you can't trade those back...

If you want them to go to war with you, keep selling them wooden crafts every year.
Does this work for sure? Even if they don't send a liaison?

Do Elves even send liaisons anymore? I don't think I've had one in my last 3 forts- just the skinny bastards with their wooden baubles and fantastic animals.

Not sure if maybe its different, but I modded my raws so I could get Giant Tigers (I only changed PET_EXOTIC and MOUNT_EXOTIC to PET and MOUNT, and added COMMON_DOMESTIC) and they had babies before the first Autumn, and again the next year around Spring. Just finishing up that year now, but I kind of expect them to have yet another litter in the following year..
