Some random questions
« on: April 15, 2011, 07:21:01 pm »

If you make an entire room out of nethercap logs and fill it with water, would all of it become ice?

Every elephant I have dies from starvation. I place it in a large pasture in the middle of a tropical forest all by itself but it seems to find nothing to eat and dies. Is there any way I can keep an elephant without it starving to death?

Is there any way to mod out the "On break" action from the dwarves?

If you contain two kobolds, goblins, or elves in an enclosed area (one male, one female) would they eventually breed?

I'd appreciate it if any of these questions are answered, thanks.

Not in an unmodified game.  Elephants can't eat grass fast enough to fuel their own metabolism, and foraging fruits/leaves from trees is not yet implemented.

No.  Only tame animals breed.

No, temperature transfer doesn't work that way yet.

Elephants cannot eat fast enough to avoid starvation at the moment, so no.

No.

Unlikely, but not impossible.  Intelligent creatures will only breed if married, and if their spouse is present on the map.  They won't get married on your map, so you have to have a pair of intelligent creatures who are already married both show up on the map.  Then you have to trap them on the map somewhere, not necessarily together (fertilization is by spores) and wait for them to start breeding.  It's incredibly difficult and unlikely, but not impossible to have happen.

Well all of that is some pretty disapointing news. But could two intelligent creatures possibly marry on my map in an enclosed area?

I don't think creatures that are not part of your fortress can get married during gameplay.  Marriage only seems to happen off-map and in world generation.

You could add [NO_EAT] and [NO_DRINK] to dwarves to cut out bio breaks, and you might want to try maxing the Focus and Willpower attributes and self-discipline with these, though I don't know how great an effect if any these have:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

One thing to note is that dwarves who aren't getting enough booze take longer breaks, so work out a way to fix that, or just take [ALCOHOL_DEPENDENT] out.
