Badger people?
« on: April 15, 2011, 06:22:55 pm »

I have a group of badger people running around in my world. I just started, so no fort yet.

Are these guys sentient or just another creature? Can they be trained?

They cannot be trained because they aren't pets, and cannot be eaten because they are intelligent.  Try to avoid them, they're insanely murderous for no reason from time to time.

And, at least in my worlds that have genned them, tough as nails, and hard to kill.

So they are just a problem to be dealt with?

Are wooden crossbow bolts fired from wooden crossbows too weak? I am guessing they are, but I'm not sure.

Badgers of all sorts are gaining the reputation of being carp and elephants rolled together into furious furry terrors.  Attempting to socialize them is heavily discouraged.

So...

I just need to shoot crossbow bolts at them from a safe distance away.

well then. I'll be off. They seem to have taken residence on a plain near my fort. They are far enough from my pasture to not be a problem there, so I think I'll just train like 2 or 3 crossbow users and kill them. There are only 5.

EDIT: They are gonna start breeding soon aren't they? They have stopped running around randomly.

EDIT EDIT: Disregard the previous edit. I think they left.

But now there are giant badgers. I should have my dwarves hole up inside the base huh?

No, place a kitten at the end of a hall full of serated disks and cage traps next to where they come in, and sell surplus badgers and badger acsessories.

Badger roasts.
Badger fur hats.
Badger nail earrings.
Badger bone bracelets.
Badger soap.
Badger blood barrels.
Badger milk.
Badger cheese.
And just plain living badgers.

Is it possible to trap the giant badgers, while still having them breed? I want to make a badger farm...

Worth a shot, you should go for it.

Just make sure to have plan B serated disks... And then plan C spear traps... And then plan D fallings stones... And then plan FFU Militia.

I don't have anything good yet.

I just started playing about a week ago, and haven't been able to keep a fort going for more than a few days. I had a good one a while ago, but it failed because there was no stone above the aquifer, the aquifer was made of stone, and I got attacked by badgers and had all of my important dwarves killed. I had to abandon it.

I just started this one today. I am a bit confused as to what exactly I am supposed to do, and am still struggling with this game.

Aww crap jsut realized that my wood cutter got killed by 2 sneak attack badgers while getting some logs. Down a dwarf. Had to set my carpenter as the woodcutter as well.

Not unless you mod the game to give them the [PET] tag.

This is what the badger men are designed after. You can find these in game, and they might come in forgotten beast form...
