Although from everything you've said at this point, I think it's easy to see that NONE OF IT MATTERS.

There appears to never be a situation where waiting three turns leaves you any better off (because you have a chance of missing, which is reduced with multiple shots).

So it's not ACTUALLY 11% to 33%, but something closer to 9% and 20%, I'd imagine (not hard numbers, but still)

So I guess I got my answers, and I don't need to dig for the exact numbers.
Firing three times is always better than once.

Also if anyone is curious, check the 'Caves of Qud' thread in other games for this roguelike. It's pretty fun!

If you only had a limited number of rounds to instill the effect, the effect was the only consequence, it didn't stack, you had 100% accuracy, and it didn't provide any benefits to triggering earlier... then waiting would be preferable.

In pretty much any other situation, no.

A perfectly good time to use the skill would be if you had surprise on the baddie.  I would take first shot at 33% cripple over first shot at 11% cripple any day, especially if he is a good distance away and i have a chance of repeated "cripple locks" on him till he dies, hopefully before he even reaches me.

It is an ever-so-slightly increased chance compared to the three attacks, for 11% vs 33%

But I don't see how it could ever be worth the lost attacks.


Note that for say, 30% vs 90% , the effect is much more dramatic.

78% chance of inflicting the condition at least once, vs 90% chance.
