Trading dwarves
« on: April 13, 2011, 01:26:29 pm »

I've heard that it's possible to mod dwarves to be tradable. How can I do this?

@Footjob, you can microwave most grains I've tried pretty easily through the microwave, even if they aren't packaged for it.

You'd probably have to change the entity_default for dwarves to [SLAVERY:ACCEPTABLE]

Don't add it in, you have to change it.

Make them pets?

I think it's the way towns develop now. In the beginning, people move into a town. Then they start producing tables, which results in more and more tables. Soon tables represent a significant portion of the population, they start lobbying for new laws and regulations, putting people to greater and greater disadvantage...

That could work too.

Elves sell animal people, so people would buy. But then your dwarves wouldn't be tamable, or none of your dwarves could work, acting like pets/strays.

The only way to make them tradeable is to make them a pet or a domestic animal.

If you want, you could make a caste of slave dwarves?

Maybe, but could they work? And would they breed like domestic animals?

this is a hunch but if you got a chance to cage one see if shoving the cage into a bag and selling the bag would work. Placing the caged dwarf in a bag can be done using Dfmode to switch over to adventure mode and getting a dwarf to pick up and put into a container.

You apply the [INTELLIGENT] tag by caste. Giving the 'other' caste certain tags will affect how they're seen by the game. At one end of the scale they act like regular fortress members who can be bought (but not sold, as they can't be assigned to cages), and at the other they're nameless semi-animals who need DT or the military to do anything but hang around.

I am trying to make chickens lay bees as eggs. So far it only produces a single "Tame Small Creature" when a hen lays bees.
Honestly at the time, I didn't see what could go wrong with crowding 80 military Dwarves into a small room with a necromancer for the purpose of making bacon.

Drop the dwarves into a 1 z-level pit, and when they get stunned at the bottom, they get caught in the cages at the bottom. Then take the cages to the depot.

Or maybe there's a god who's just completely insane and sends you to Detroit, Michigan in a new body if you ever utter the name "Pat Sajak".

I want to buy dwarves more than sell them. If we could have creatures in reactions this would be much easier. Of course, if we could have creatures in reactions, modders would come up with some really disturbing stuff.

the trick is you can't sell caged creatures with out the having them release. It's a bug that wasn't fix. or was not in 31.21 .
