I was on the "They changed it, now it sucks", side of the argument for a bit, but now I'm cautiously optimistic.
Seems pretty cool, I was mostly upset about it being a FTP game with purchasable rocket launchers, but that's not a thing.
Either Jagex heard the fan outlash, or someone was spreading nasty rumors.
Either way, that seems to not be the case(obviously it is not FTP). If one of the Bay12ers say it's any good I'll probably purchase it at some point.
Also, saying Jagex will ruin AoS like it did Runescape is kinda silly, since AoS is purchasable and doesn't have a crappy FTP model like Runescape. That and bots are the two big problems with Runescape as I can see, and both should be a non-issue if there is some kind of cheat protection in the server software.

I was talking with some people a few months ago about AoS, and we all pretty much agreed that it was a nice game, but not good enough to sell. It's just... kind of simple. Not bad, just not with enough content to really warrant release.

Pretty much this. This is the kind of game you would sell for anywehre between 2 and 5 euros, if you would sell it at all. I wonder how long it will take for someone to restart AoS, only better.

I simply can't get below 150 ping in this game, which makes it unplayable.
When you are in a server you see 20 people with 150 ping, and 2 people with 50 ping... what the hell are they doing?

Frankly, I'm also worried about Jagex killing any sort of creative development of it. I loved playing on the Tribes-style servers that gave you jetpacks.

I was playing on the Minnit Test Drive server the other day and they had a winter wonderland version of the normal Goon Assault map, with a layer of snow, snow covered trees and randomly dropped red block "presents form santa" that could contain either three grenades minus their pins, nothing, a full restock, a grenade fountain spawned at that point, death, invisibility, or 30 seconds of flight.  Also, the trees, although appearing strudy from the outside, were actually held up by single block thick "trunks". It was great.

Conversely, playing babel just now I heard many people complaining that the 1.00 maps are all the size of CoD maps. Bleh.

Don't the game have a whole class dedicated to jetpacking around now?

Yep, and now it is pointless to do anything other but go all tribes on the flag.

Tribes: Aerial Assault was a great game. I'm going to play it later.

AoS used to be a great game. I'm not going to play it again.

Now hold on. If there is such a thing as a private server, setting it up to give us a building period before any fighting begins, and disallowing jetpacks, would make the game a lot better.

Also....Do structures still collapse? If you make a tower then shoot out the bottom, does it fall down?

Why the hate guys? Have you read any reviews or played it and not liked it? (Not a rhetorical question)

I've read some reviews. The ones that aren't all "Omg Jagex lemme guzzle your fluids" tend to share the same 'It was better before' sentiment, which wards me off of purchasing it.
