What's still fun though, is Aloha's ladder mode. Basically, there's a huge platform high in the sky with both team's intel on it. You have to work together as a team to build a ladder of sorts up there - and also you can't destroy anyone's blocks but your own to minimise griefing.

It gets ridiculously hectic when you get within a few blocks of the intel and an opposing team member manages to take out your ladder (a huge base for the ladder is worthwhile) and everyone falls to their doom.

That's probably the only thing in AOS that I find fun anymore.

Can you still shoot the other team's blocks?

Is there any way to set up a private server? We could make a B12 server and play togheter.

I just played for three hours and there weren't any aimbots (at least on the other team).

It's a shame that the only trenches will either be completely accidental, dug by me, or the other team. So many tunnels to nowhere and without any bends... it's sickening. And I'm pretty sure I'm the only person I've seen using RMB to dig with the shovel.

Oh well, at least I get to murder tons of people. Am I a terrible person for using an SMG? If so, ask yourself how many whales you've drained the water around and butchered in the past month before responding.

Might've been fixed by now, who knows.

I'm a big fan of the built in bunkers/foxholes.

Trenches, and Large bunkers behind them I find work well.

The best fortifications are built into the sides of mountains to snipe down on unsuspecting enemies. In my experience, once the enemy knows where your fortifications are, every half decent sniper, rambo-esque machinegunner, and aimbotter comes down on you.

Ideally, put a block diagonal from where your sniper roost is and where the enemy is. If they can't see you shooting directly, you're probably sufficiently well hidden.

When asked how you'd be able to see, he said that your first eye would have healed by then.

Most of the so called "bunkers" and "trenches" I see in this game are crap. Plus, when ever I build a nice, shot-trapped, bunker, some idiot on my team runs in, races right past me because he doesn't see anyone standing directly in front of the window and blocks my view. And given that I try to put the shot-traps on the inside and the outside, and always use double or triple walls, they usually last a while.

Ideally, you want to be able to move from visible to invisible as quickly as possible, and to stand back from your firing port as that you are visible only by enemies directly in front of you. Then, as you move around your wide bunker, you can firing across a much wider arc than you can be seen from.

It's basic stuff like this that most players totally fail to grasp.

I like AoS because it's usually something fairly intuitive. I positively hate crouch spamming, however.

I do hear there are still some good servers out there... I'm looking.
You might look at me funny for this, but try Sham's Little Pony. It tends to have more mature and competent players and better teamwork, as long as you can live with the "Ponifier" word-filter and the occasional player pretending to be one of the MLP:FiM cast.

Honestly the best tactic I find for lone-wolf sniping is to make a system of tunnels with some rabbit holes scattered across the country side. Just pop your head out of one and blow a couple heads off before moving to another hole via your tunnel network. Make sure you camouflage them into the country side and build a "lip" so you can't see them on the mini-map.

You'll be able to always take the enemy by surprise and if anyone comes down to flush you out they have to fight you on your home turf. I once had this nice little maze set up with lots of dead ends which allowed me to demolish any fools who attempted to find me, the game really needs more traps though.  :P

I rarely use defensive structures in the game and rather rely on tunnels and holes. The best defence is a good ambush.

I do something similar to that, except that I always fill in my firing positions with appropriately colored blocks when not using them. I usually end up shutting down a good portion of whatever map I'm on because most of their team is pit-pattering around above my head in a futile search. If I hear digging, I get to where they'll enter and greet them with a bullet to the face before filling in that section and digging another path. It's absurdly fun to play Vietcong-style.  :P
