Eh, the game doesn't really have a setting and the "evidence" people put forth are all conflicting.

1) First off we've got the game's name and icon, Ace of Spades which are of course a reference to the Vietnam War.
We've also got tunneling and some gurillia warefare (blue team)
2) We've got trench warfare, clear battle lines and scopeless rifles which have WW1 all over it.
3) We've got gun models which people claim are based off WW2 weapons.
4) We've got statements of Ben (the developer) considering adding vechicles such as helicopters and boats.
5) Rumours of a submachine gun coming in the next patch (not WW1).
6) The weapons are stated to be a place holders.
7) Lack of tanks (although this has more to do with the engine than historical accuracy, it's pretty hard to base a game in WW2 without tanks)
8) Who the fuck cares?

Conculsion: Pick which ever damn war you want it to be. All of them involve you butchering your fellow man.
However the "evidence" points that this is a fictional war. Pretend it's Blue's War of Independence or Green's U.N. Backed Toppling of Blue Dictatorship.

Personally I like to think it's alternate history of the Anglo-Scottish war, where Karl Marx and Sir Arthur Wellesley went back in time to over throw the alien peacekeepers who are impossing harsh trade embargos on the modern world.

Eh. The first "true" sub-machine gun were invented in 1918 and although thats when the whole "war of movement" phase was taking off the war was pretty much over.

It's a little like saying cannons were used in the Hundred Years War even though there were really only one battle where they were effective.

That said it doesn't matter, it's a totally fictional war the game is based in. Which is better in my eyes, if I play another game about WW2 I think I'll neck myself.

A pro with a SMG is a sight to behold. People falling like mayflies and buildings collapsing, its amazing. Wish I was a pro. :( :(

People falling to an smg? Those things do next to no damage. It's disgusting. I was sniping with one and got two headshots and the guy saw and countersniped me. Two headshots didn't kill him, in the game where a single headshot used to be instantly fatal.

 They are SMG bullets not rifle bullets. Plinking off of their helmets it is.

In a recent game, the blues had made a fortification on the flat side of the mountain, overlooking us (the mountain had been genned that way, not completely flat, but still fairly flat)
And we had a small trench system leading up to it, and our intel had been taken to a part of it

Me and a guy had managed to dig in to the side of the mountain, and protect the intel with no possibility of the blues firing on us unless they turned around.
We discovered 2 tunnels leading off into the blue area, and we sealed them off.
While we were exploring this, the intel was taken, as we had forgotten to leave someone to keep watch.

A blue finally realized we were there, and managed to kill both of us.

Was pretty fun ^^
