I would, but the game crashed while I was trying to figure out how to use DF Prospector. I need to reembark.

What are your plans for the river?

I only ask because I've just decided to start up a .25 game with the potential of mass removing a lot of ground (outside my central fort area, at least, about 9,000 tiles worth of natural ground which I'm still feeling rather precious about), and there's a river flowing through.  More to the edge than yours, and I'm thinking of (at least initially) leaving it as a 'floating viaduct', should I actually go through with the Big Dig.  There'd be a later option of smashing it and seeing if there's enough flow to make a big lake (FPS permitting, but I'm patient).

I'm not actually in the position to dig as much of my map out as I think you're planning, because I've reserved all but 25-ish tiles of border for my central natural ground 'inside' of my fort, but there's always the possibility of angling the border inwards, as I develop the 'natural insides', down below the soil layers, to make an 'inverted-mountain-on-a-lollypop-stick' effect. :)

(And, to be honest, it could easily just end as a relatively massive 1Z/2Z defensive ditch, and no further :) )

Sheesh, that's a lot of ground to dig out. Depending on how big you make your dig zone. If your going to go the whole map... well that's a bit much. But should be interesting to see.

I've been distracted of late, so not made much progress on this.

Re-embarked. Posted the save here. The only thing I did was add designations, stockpiles, and zones.

The embark site was too hot for anything to be done properly. the booze and water were all vaporizing near instantly.

Regenerating the world. For some reason, it's only giving me one volcano per world gen.

OKay, I'm going to take a brief hiatus. The game is pissing me off, and I need to work on pictures for Easter.

When I go to that link it says "Error- the requested file listing does not exist".

Also, you can turn off temperature in the init.txt file.

You can up the volcano amount to insane levels if you really want some unique volcanos.

They're nearly as bad as badgers. Build a couple of anti-buzzard SAM sites marksdwarf towers and your fortress will look like Baghdad in 2003 from all the aerial bolt spam. You waste a lot of ammo and everything is covered in unslightly exploded buzzard bits and broken bolts.

I can only get it around 20 volcanoes without it going into eternal reject mode when I try to generate the world. MOst of those volcanoes generate in the ocean, others in the cores of mountains. It leaves me with only 4 or 5 usable volcanoes per world gen.

Really? I can generally put it up to about 150-200, and it takes quite a long time to generate, but I still get the world (eventually)

LISTEN UP, YOU BASTARDS!

I found a site that you all might find extremely interesting.

A magma TOWER that goes 74 Z-levels straight up. The pillar itself is isolated at the final 15. I thought you all would want to play this one. I uploaded it to the File Depot.

Just to warn you, half of this world is Hell, literally. For soem reason, my worldgens lately have had Hell sprouting up halfway down, and it's not even a 50 z-level Hell or anything like that. Most of it is attributed to the Glowing pits. I looked in reveal and Prospector. There is over 5 million Slade in this area. Also, there is a magma leak somewhere that is pouring magma directly into the pits. I don't know if it's linked to the sea, but if it is, it could render the zone unplayable. regardless, I'm going to try making this area the new pit.

EDIT: It is. Mission aborted.

When I read this I thought you mean Hell was extending to the surface across half the world-map XD.

And I thought "What sort of worldgen settings is he using?"

There are recently documented cases where the volcano's length diverts soil layers into a weird mismatch with the lower Sea, sometimes leading to the magma draining into Hell. I once had something similar happen, but I attributed that to the Lake Volcano that the embark overlooked. This issue may have to do with so many volcanos moving so many layers of soil all over the globe, making MagmaHell all over.
I'm torn between whether this is promising :D or worrying :-\.
