that settles it, out of two equal choices being bay area and boulder, colorado,

Bay area is the superior option.

Angle, whereabouts?

I've got a court case at the end of June, but if I win I am going to go to the meetup. I live in Colorado Springs, we could probably get together and go if it all works out... Though I imagine the meetup would have to be mid July for that to work.

I'm near boulder, but convincing my parents to let me ride of with some people from the Internet might be difficult.
It's getting unnerving.

If we do this again in say... three years, I'll be there.
Maybe. It'd be a 15 hour drive from Phoenix, and I'm not even sure if I'll have a car when I'm there.

Everybody from the EU should pool money to buy every single Euro Millions ticket. Win lottery, buy a private jet, ferry everybody over. Win.

There's actually at least 4 people I know who live in the state who play Dwarf Fortress, and all live along the front range.

We really should consider some kind of carpool, us Colorado People. Show the other 49 states and the other 194 (195?) countries in the world what for!

(Edit: We should try for seven. I know a good embark location. Angel, you are in charge of the Dwarven Wine, I'll bring a pair of cats, FallingWhale, you bring the anvil!)

Hey I understand the majority of DF fans won't be able to attend but you don't really need to post here to tell us, it's kinda crowding out the ones of trying to do so.

Yes, I am interested! If I can come, I'll be driving from SoCal. We may be able to carpool if there's enough interest.
Also, I can come in June or July, but there was no option for that.
Also, tour of old gold mine = totally sweet

Hey, I stummbled across this while looking at http://www.mandible.net/2011/04/25/roguelikes-the-misnamed-genre/

Being that I am local I would like to point out a few things:

It will be hot in July.  Last year it only got to 115, I have seen 118.  It will be over 90 from 9am to 9pm.  Staying on the valley floor is a bad idea, camp in the mountains, or at least by the river.  The river is cold enough to cause hypothermia even in the summer.  People have died trying to swim across it.  Also, downtown Redding is kinda sketchy, don't get a hotel there.

There is a real cave called Samwell Cave somewhere north or west of the city.  You get the key from the Forest Service and have to hike a half mile or so to get to it.  Cost is minimal.  You need flashlights and helmets(bicycle helmets work).

Chico is a college town, has a cool downtown with a gaming store and "Nerd Bar" that would host you.  There is also Bidwell park, which is huge and has a large swimming creek running through it.  Chico also has more trees and will be 7-10 degrees cooler.  Chico also has better public transit.  In my personal opinion, Chico is a much nicer town in every way, and Redding is kinda a bland McCity.

Lastly, Greyhound and the Amtrak bus go to both towns.  If Greyhound scares you, take Amtrak, it is a few bucks more and much nicer.

How about next year, the East coasters buy Tarn and Zach a ticket and hotel room, and we have it in Boston?

TBH, I think that all dwarf fortress problem solving falls either on the "Rube Goldberg" method, or the "pharaonic" one.

First post here, but I've enjoyed this game for many years. It sounds crazy, but why not? I've never done anything like this before. Another vote for the Bay Area, but I'd still go to Redding. I need more details before being absolutely sure.

I live in the Bay Area, and will be attending. It would be great if it were in San Francisco or San Jose, but nearly anywhere in-state is good for me.
