Let's try to stay focused on the meetup, guys.

Also, I understand that many people would like to come but can't.  Don't worry, we know you love us, please don't post here unless you are coming and you have a question or comment about the meetup.

Anyone want to join us from the SF bay area and wants to carpool?

Guess I'll start asking here.

I supply the car, you supply the gas money, awesomeness, lack of serial killers, lack of rapists, and lack of general creepiness.

I can pick up anywhere where BART would service I suppose.

Reposting the group hotel rate for visibility on this page.  I'm not tracking how many people book rooms under the group name, but I'd be curious to know who else is taking advantage of it.

Quote from: Group Hotel Rates
Okay guys, the best rate at the cleanest hotel I could find is:

69.99 + tax, at the Quality Inn on 2059 Hilltop Drive. Redding, CA 96002 - (530) 221-6530

the name of the group is Bay12, and it's just across the street from the Molly Stones where the meet will be.

This is $15 off their regular rate, includes breakfast, etc.  There are cleaner hotels for more money, or cheaper hotels that are a little crappier.  The customer reviews aggrigated on Google give it 3 out of 5 stars, and having read through them it sounds like a pretty decent place.

I'm coming up from the bay area, but will probably rent a car as I need to book out early on Sunday AM.  I think there were several other bay area people making noises about a carpool, so you should be able to get something together.

First of all, I may or may not actually be bringing my +1. My friend bailed on me and my brother is a bit iffy on actually going, so I dunno. I'll more than likely still go, though.

For the second question, other than the meetup itself, what are some good tourist sites or places to check out around there? I'm debating about taking off more than just that Friday and spending an extra day or two driving around and seeing the area.

well I was going to say that I'm definitely going and offer to bring some people... but last week my car blew a head gasket and died.  So I might come, if I can get a new/borrowed car worked out by then, but no one should be counting on me for a ride.

I am a complete DF noob and I just made an account here. I live in the Salinas area of Monterey County, and I would be willing to go. I own a car and could bring other people. If you leave in the Salinas area and want to go maybe we could set up a carpool.

Won't be coming this time around. I literally moved out of Redding last month.  :'(

Definitely try and make it to the caverns, if you can. They're really cool!

As previously mentioned, Mt. Shasta and Mt. Lassen are big and majestic touristy type places.

If you're into stuff that's a little more low-key, Whiskeytown Lake has some nice little hiking trails and a swimming beach. The Sacramento River Trail has some pretty good views of the river, along with a cool little peace labyrinth some hippies built about two miles up the south bank.

There's also the Sundial Bridge over the Sacramento, which is another cool thing to check out if you have a little bit of time. Mt. Shasta and Lassen are more like day-trips.

Make some sort of public backup of the source code in case some crazed/angry fan has an anger tantrum, pulls a lever and kills you all.

Please take pictures and make some sort of resume of what happened! For the 184 people who can't come, so we atleast know a little bit of what happened...

Dwarf Fortress: You have a team of hundreds working for four years to make a game where you save the world again. We have one guy for four years make a near-infinite world generator, write the physics, generate histories, form detailed descriptions of every human, elf, dwarf, and goblin generated, caverns, and huge randomly generated monsters made out of who knows what. You. guys. suck.

If I win £166,000,000 in the lottery tomorrow, I'll be there, and I'll be bringing a Learjet full of any other Brits who want to come.

In a fat-fingered moment while setting up another military squad I accidentally created a captain of the guard rather than a militia captain.  His squad of near-legendary hammerdwarves equipped with high quality silver hammers then took it upon themselves to dispense justice to all the mandate breakers in the fortress.  It was quite messy.

Okay, so what is the deal on the group cavern tour?  Is there a specific location to be, or a group name to ask for?  I guess we should be there a little early to get tickets and whatnot?

9:00 Tour of Lake Shasta Caverns (Non-mandatory, but ToadyOne, ThreeToe, Capntastic and Rainseeker will be there.)  2 hour tour costs $22, but is really cool.  Be there on time or you'll get left behind!
Location Website:  http://lakeshastacaverns.com/

Check out the website for the specific location.  We want everyone to be there at 9:00 sharp so we can go to the 9:30 tour; we need to be 30 minutes early so they will have enough spots for us.  If you arrive any earlier it will be a bonus for you.  Once you get there be sure to purchase a ticket for the 9:30 tour.

I edited the top announcement to reflect this.

It's almost time!  I CANNA WAIT!
