RTD Wars! The Action Thread. ROUND 2 - Messages from Space
« on: April 12, 2011, 02:41:42 am »

The room was empty. It was always empty, except on certain nights.

These nights were few and far between. But the length of the night would stretch on for eons.

The door opened, and in walked a figure. A box, held under his arm and half obscured, shone a title.

RTD Wars.

A snap and a dim light appeared far above. A table appeared.

The box was opened. Out poured a veritable tide of books, paper, pens, sheets...

He reached down inside and pulled out a board. Five circles orbited a central sphere. The board shimmered as it was set down on the table.

The door opened.

"Ah, Gatleos, You have made it."

"I would never miss it, TolyK."

A sheet, one of five, was flipped. Digital Hellhound

"What are the stakes, this time?" asked Gatleos.

"The lords? Perhaps they will join us. The mortals shall replace him."

"Ah, the standard, then. It has been so long since new blood has flowed in our realm."

"Indeed. I believe it is customary for the last winner to oversee the new game?"

"I am already here," said a voice from the shadows.

Another sheet flipped. Darvi

Gatleos was not surprised. "Dermonster."

The figure walked up. *snap* Three chairs appeared. He sat, watching the board.

"Interesting choices here."

"Indeed," said Tolyk. "This promises to be the most entertaining round in a long while."

"My victory was no small feat," Dermonster said, slightly affronted.

Gatleos smirked. "It matters not. The game will be played."

Smaller sheets were filled, and the circles on the edges filled in with arcane power, and dissolved, showing five small planets. The central sphere filled, and the grand arena took shape. The hardest one so far.

A flick, and many objects scattered into the rings.

The lords were picked, their Heroes selected. All would battle for the chance to ascend.

This, gentlemen, is not a game. It is a conquest to supremacy!

This is the saga of the RTD wars.

"Let the games begin," said Dermonster.

"Hey that's my line! Yes, let the games begin..."

Turn 1: Let the game begin!
« Reply #7 on: April 12, 2011, 12:27:57 pm »

Darvi (Turn 0) Let the game begin!

"Ah, there you are Otto, we've just been waiting for ya!", I say as I motion him to his seat. "Do ya have your character sheet? Cool. Fred and Al are already there, of course." I point to the other two guys at the table. Fred's busy reading through some rulebooks, while Al munches some crisps. "Yeah, we have snacks too. Crisps, jelly beans, soda... you don't have something with ya, do ya?" Otto says no. "Ah well. Let's get this started shall we?"

"You are a group of explorers on the spaceship Liberalis. News has been that scans have found a planet on which there might have been, or maybe still is, some intelligent life. Or at least they have detected some sort of energy that is of a definitely unnatural nature. Either way, the three of you decided to volunteer for an expedition on said planet."

"Otto's character is an Archaeologist. He wants to find the source of the energy and become a legendary discoverer. You start with a diary, some data disks, a scanner, and a whip for tradition's sake.
Al is a Treasure Hunter. Most of the stuff has to be handed over to museums, but they pay good cash for it. He also wants to find alien technology, reverse engineer it, and sell it back home on New Gaia for profit. He starts with an omnitool and an optical camo.
Fred is a Bodyguard. His job is solely to keep the other two alive. But he doesn't mind, I mean, NEW PLANET! He has reinforced armor and  a RTD-24 plasma rifle. You other two also have armor and a lasgun, but they're pretty weak and don't give you any bonuses. You'd need a license for the better stuff."

"You have recently arrived on the planet. It still has no name due to the "no naming of planets until they get colonized"-policy of New Bielefeld, 2478.
You have vaguely located the energy source, but it's in the middle of a rain forest, so you had to land a couple miles south in a clearing. No other signs of intelligent life have been found.
The air is breathable, and the average temperature is slightly below what they had back on Earth."

"You are approached by the captain of the spaceship, Jean-Marie Ricard. He's a minor and totally unimportant character, so I won't bother with a description as you'll never see him again until the game is over." I change my voice into a deeper, more mature tone. " 'Aight guys. We're there, so it's time for you to get ready and get going. We'll be waiting for fourteen solar days, but after that you're officially dead. No offence. Your supplies are by the exit, so you don't need t bother gathering everything.' What do you do?"

Frelock
Alzeranox
Ottofar

Digital Hellhound - Turn 1 - Tourist Trap

The battered old helicopter drops low as it passes the edge of the rainforest, sending a family of farmers scattering in surprise. The pilot, who was introduced to you as Stjepan, lets out a burst of booming laughter. He seems little like the professional he was advertised as, but this isn't the worst ride the passengers have ever taken. All three have seen their share of battles and conflicts, sometimes even there to start them.

Trol Lan leans forward in the back, flexing his muscles. The other man, a seasoned veteran merc of arabic descent, is unimpressed. He's seen Trol's type before - all brawn, no brain, lacking any finesse or subtlety. Just letting your guns do the talking simply scares any potential informants or leads into hiding. The last member of their team sits next to the pilot. Miles carries himself in a confident, carefree manner, hiding a keen mind behind a smile. What the specialist lacks in muscle or combat training he makes up in charisma and knowledge.

The pilot pulls the chopper back up. Ahead looms the jagged silhouette of the city, skyscrapers of steel and glass arising from a melting pot of different architectural styles and designs, surrounded by makeshift slum towns and workers' camps. Corruption runs rampant, and that, combined with it's excellent geographical location, has made it a true hive of spies and intelligence agencies.

The helicopter continues onto the city, Stjepan navigating based on a dusty map, atleast a few decades out-of-date. The chopper heads into a middle-class area, dropping low again for the landing zone. The actual safehouse is a few blocks from there, but you didn't want to draw too much attention to yourselves. Probably useless in this city, but it can't hurt to be careful. The helicopter hovers above an empty yard, throwing clouds of dust against the buildings.

'Hey!' Stjepan shouts from the cockpit, 'I took you here, now get the fuck off my bird.' He bangs his fist on the controls for effect. The three passengers quickly drop out and begin walking towards the safehouse without another word. Stjepan's helicopter soon climbs back up and disappears into the sky. They soon arrive at the door of their safehouse, a sturdy, simple apartment in a collection of other sturdy, simple apartments.

Inside are half a dozen rooms containing several locked cabinets that seem to be full of weapons and a few computers. Otherwise it's pretty empty aside from normal furniture, though it seems the last user abandoned it in a hurry. One of the computers is beeping, most likely your anonymous employer.

All players are inside the Safehouse. Feel free to look around.

Search the house for anything to pick a lock or some keys. Bastards have to let us to them some how.

Nirur Torir - Turn 0 - Master of Magic

Wolfchild, SeriousConcentrate, and Ahra were separately going about their lives as normal. Arcane mumblings incomprehensible to SeriousConcentrate and Ahra, that Wolfchild recognized as highly advanced, filled their ears. They found themselves paralyzed within seconds, followed by blinding light. Wolfchild attempted a counterspell, but was instantly silenced.

As the light receded, the three found themselves in front of a man in a spiffy red robe with gold trim. Further inspection indicates that they are in a large pentagram etched into the floor, still unable to move.
"Greetings, heroes-to-be. Serve me, Tauron, and my favor shall go with you. My spell indicates that you are highly compatible with my magic, far more then any other warrior in my empire. Two of you have the greatest potential fighting capacity I have ever known, and you," He looks at Wolfchild with a puzzled expression for several moments. "You have never studied in the Imperial Academy, that much is certain, yet your power ..." He trails off, then gestures at a rack of items behind them. "I spent the past week preparing an enchanted weapon for each of you. Take up one of my banners, and you shall be granted the strength and power of three men. Finally, my symbol will allow me to aid you with magic, as well as communicate and see what you see" He gestures to a desk against the wall with three crystal balls arranged in a perfect equilateral triangle. "I shall also allow each of you your pick of horses from my personal stable."

"Should you agree to serve as my heroes, and I see no reason why you wouldn't, all this and more will be granted to you. You shall have autonomy, and I suggest three courses of action:
The first, and most risky, is riding to the western port-city of Exeter. From there, you shall be part of an invasion force attempting to open a second front against Rjak before he succeeds in banishing Lo Pan.
The second would be scouting mission through a newly-repaired ancient tower to the plane of Myrror. I only have a few cavalry to spare for this mission, so you would largely be alone. Sss'ra does not yet know about this tower, and you would have a fair chance of escaping detection.
The third is the safest. The halflings have reported that bands of undead roam the eastern countryside. They have been able to hold them off from their cities, for now, but need reinforcements to properly remove the threat. I will be dispatching a platoon of cavalry lead by a paladin to investigate. Should you choose this option, you would have priority for claiming any magical items or gold found, and would have the opportunity to test your newly granted powers.

When you are ready, the stairs are behind me. Feel free to experience the sights of the capital before you leave." He finishes speaking, and looks at the heroes oddly for a moment before blinking in surprise and snapping his fingers. The pentagram fades as though it never existed, and the heroes find themselves able to move freely once again. They each claim their assigned items.

All heroes now stand before Tauron.

"Thank you my lord"
Suggest we go either on the scouting mission or to attack the undead as my companions may be fierce warriors , may, but they will be less noticed amongst a pitched battle, also ask permision to peruse the magic library and if given permision see if i can absorb a coupple of spells before we head out
