How to tell what direction they're facing?
« on: April 11, 2011, 06:13:03 pm »

I'm hoping to be able to send my armies to flank attackers. Occasionally there'll be a combat message that says "The X punches the Y in the Z from behind/the side". How can I tell which side of a creature is which?

I'm unsure, but I think it's determined by what direction they last moved in or attacked in and I've never seen a way to check their facing by looking at them or anything. In any case, they seem to be able to instantly turn to any orientation and so I don't think trying to maneuver around them really works, though maybe ambushing might allow it.

The only time I've seen the attack from behind sort of thing work is when something was being attacked from opposite sides, in which case they have to be facing one direction or the other. (Not sure if this applies to some creatures with a bunch of heads like hydras.)

So now all we've got to do is to put a couple of grannies into the LHC and smash them against each other at relativistic speeds. Lather, rinse, repeat until we got results.

I think its where ever you move that's where you are facing.

Attacks also matter. Three swordsmen attacking a titan in adventure mode lead to lots of side/back attacks.

I don't think the creatures actual tile positions matter but rather the fact if the creature is attacking an another creature at the same time the dwarves may have a chance? to hit the enemy in the back
