Enhancing the value of goblinite.
« on: April 11, 2011, 12:05:49 pm »

Now, this doesn't refer to modding value multipliers. Here, I refer to the ore itself. As we all know, goblinite is encased in multiplee FPS-killing layers of forbidden cloth and leather, meaning that the metallic concentration of the ore is relatively low per unit. With how rare surface magma is these days-and the fact I'm still getting back into the groove of effective harvesting of this ore-I was wondering how to, using the raws, eliminate said wasteful slag in order to obtain the ore while minimizing hauling to the drawbridge. As a bonus, my laptop isn't the fastest out there, so this will help me maintain my FPS at bearable levels.

Convert all your traps into repeating spike traps so that goblins aren't dismembered and you're left with multiple hauling jobs due to scattered body parts.

Then set your clothiers and leatherworkers into inscribing all that goblin cloth and leather with decorations so you can trade them.

Or if you're just interested in the iron, just make sure that there's a dump zone over a magma pit near the traps (or that the trap itself forces the goblins off into a magma pit).

Then once a year or so, drain the magma so you can harvest the iron.

Your beard hairs should be tingling by now, my fellow dwarves.

IN the entity file you can mod out most of the clothing that a race will wear.  I've removed most except armor and some sort of pants for all race except dwarves.

You need to make said elf leather into the most amazing work of art.  Embed it with every kind of gem you have, stud it with metals, and sew images into it.  Erect a shrine outside your fort with that in the center.  Let the elves know that you view their very skin as naught more but a medium for your dwarves to work on.

Any effect on survivability? Gbbos have this nasty tendency to die out in world gen for me, so I have stop world gen somewhere around 150 if I want to fight them. Although, maybe I could just give gobbos multiple births...

Answer: Kill all your goblins with a magma cannon. Pick up the iron scraps once the magma dries up.

Or just mouse over the goblinite, d->b->d it all, then d->b->m over that, then put up a repeating melt job at all your smelters. Your dwarves should then take all the leather and various useless goblinite and chuck it into your magma garbage pit, and take all the metal bits over to the smelters to be processed.

This is, of course, assuming that your garbage dump zone is actually used for disposing of garbage via magma. If it's not, you are a horrible dwarf and need to build one immediately or be excommunicated by the Dwarven Pope.

If that's a problem simply lower the age at which goblins can give birth/otherwise chance the speed at which they reproduce. You might want to do that anyway.

There is a legitimate reason to NOT chuck crap into volcanoes-two, actually.
1.) Quantum storage.
2.) Butchers will not go halfway across the map for a dead critter to butcher.
