A question about clowns/titans/FB's
« on: April 11, 2011, 01:50:34 am »

I have been wondering about this, is there a maximum range on breath attacks? If there is, I am going to initiate operation "Pot shot"!

Basically I want to know the range so I can fire ballistae at the circus.

Yup. But so does !!Face acid!!.
Does siege engineer skill increase it's ability to fire through the fortifications, like how marksdwarf apparently does? I'd assume if you had some good siege engineers, you'd be able to fire from far away without eating acid to the face.

Siege engines shoot regardless of skill, as skill only effects the dice roll deciding where the bolt/stone actually goes in terms of direction. There's about a 30 degree field of error..?

So....fortifications would be a good thing then?

Yes. Siege Weapons completely ignore fortifications.

That's why I want to know if there is a limited range on breath attacks. If there is, I could hold demons off with various fortifications and ballistae

If there isn't, the demons still have to get within a certain range. You should be fine.

Wait a second...

We can throw objects with a bridge-a-pult, right? Is it really possible to fire magma with it? Please tell me it is.

...I may have just found the motivation to tunnel to magma , even with the FPS issues the caverns on the way may cause me.

From Mr. Welch's 1350 things he is not allowed to do in a RPG:
148. There is no Gnomish Deathgrip, and even if there was, it wouldn't involve tongs.
171. My character's dying words are not allowed to be "Hastur, Hastur, Hastur"
218. No matter my alignment, organizing halfling pit fights is a violation.
231. I am not allowed to do anything that would make a Sith Lord cry.
240. Any character with more than three skills specializing in chainsaw is vetoed.

So sad. Flying magma seems appropriate.

Someone's made a magma cannon before. He was able to pressurize it to around 5 (When with water it would have been around 5 hundred or some shit). It didn't fire hard, but it went EVERYWHERE. It was more of a shotgun that a cannon.

Oh shit that sounded wrong.

Ballistae have an immense range, more than 100 tiles.  Its long enough that they can fire from outside of the vision range of mobs with breath attacks and are in no danger.  Its just you need stupidly high quality equipment and stupidly skilled siege operators to hit a target accurately at that range.
