Conjuring rain and snow. Christ, what does it take to piss these dwarves off?

Have you tried isolating them so they can't socialize?

I've tried making huge meeting areas, and very few dwarves have friends. So I decided to do the opposite. Let them make friends, but then hurt those friends.

And then leave the corpses to rot, further increasing the despair?

Personal note-most of my fell moods were the immediate aftermath of a tantrum spiral.

Calling it a day. Will pick it up again tomorrow. I feel many of the dwarves may be becoming desensitized :(.

This.

The cause of the tantrum spiral was a ranged ambush, which killed many popular military dwarves. In the midst of the tantruming a mother went moody and butchered her infant. Made a floor hatch or some shit out of it.

The key is to be able to induce misery without inducing (excessive) insanity as well- 'tis a fine, fine line to walk.

Dear Dwarves,

You can stop having Fey moods now, seriously. Y'all have been tantruming left and right, sleeping outside, eating nothing but plump helmets, and drinking nothing but water for years now.

You could try saving frequently and scumming when you get a save close to a mood.
