Outpost Liaison Demotion
« on: April 10, 2011, 06:17:51 pm »

So my current baroness is also one of my most busy metalcrafters. She's been churning out high quality steel armor for like two years now.

As a result, she doesn't really have the time to meet with the outpost liaison from my capital. And so last year's liaison was still chasing her around the fortress when the caravan arrived for the next year, with its own liaison.

The result is that the old liaison got demoted to just being a peasant.

Who lives in my Fortress's bathhouse/statue garden now.

Thought that was interesting, since I couldn't figure out why I had an @ peasant sitting around in my fort not doing anything until  I put all the pieces together.

Anyone else have this happen to them?

In earlier versions your old liason would have gone insane by that point and would probably be dead by the time a new one came.

Liaisons still go insane if you don't let them leave the map after their meeting, but they'll wait forever to meet.  I've never had one hang around waiting long enough for the next year's liaison to arrive and demote him though.  Someone should deliberately try collecting them, seeing how many former liaisons you can get to hang around your fortress.

I'm going to go enslave them now. Sacrifices anyone?

If they go beserk, weaponize them. If they live, you've been given a free raging hero. If they die, you've been given free FB fodder

That's probably what I'm going to end up doing, and it won't be very difficult either. Since my Baroness is my primary Furnace Operator and Armorsmith and she hauls and she has a permanent dizzy condition, which means she's always working slowly, I'm fairly sure she is going to reliably fail to meet the liaisons. Another year is about to roll around, let's see if I can get another one.

To make a trap for liasions, you only need to entrap the first one, when he already had initialized the oh so playerfriendly "what shall we bring you next year" dialogue. Any liasions that arrive in the following years should stand in line and wait that he finishes this conversation.

So, try to wall in the diplomat.

A fiendish temporary office layout for the expedition leader should do it. Maybe make a 1x1 office so that the diplomat has to wait outside of it, then try to trap him in the adjacent closet.

This is something different I think, since my liaison never got to start his conversation. Because every time he tries to talk to my baroness, she goes "Hang on, let's go to my office", and it's so far away that she always drops unconscious because of her spider bite, and then gets distracted by a metalworking job.

As a result, instead of a bunch of liaisons, they get demoted and then just live pleasantly and happy in my fort.

We really need to enslave liaisons. Then we need to find something to do with them that's useful.

Organize gladiator fights between them and goblin captives?

Idea!
Lock them in a room, make them all best friends, then force their painful deaths one by one. Lock berserkers in cages, and release on sieges
