I have good news and I have bad news.

The bad news: I opened the game up and received 28 errors in a row, then something about a data corruption error. The game will not load, so I will have to abandon that.

The good news: I plan to do a new one, with an interesting premise. I will place an alien empire either on one of the planets/moons in the solar system or in a nearby system so we get to some action fairly quickly. I may also place multiple populations on earth to model the other major nations. A US vs Russia vs Martians game would be fun.

Just remember to keep your non-player Earth empires to one, and set an diplomatic team on them immediately, lest your wars turn Earth into radioactive slag.

Unfortunately I'm not quite up to running a multiplayer game. I know someone else is attempting that, and I think it's madness but I do applaud him for the attempt.
