20th July, 2012 - Nordine Transport Services, a subsidiary of Amtrac, has launched the first two civilian-owned spacecraft; a Nelson class luxury liner and a Bayander II freighter. UEF contracts have been drawn up to put these ships to work. UEF plans to construct Nelson class vessels are on hold as Nordine Transport Services has negotiated exclusive passenger contracts for the Sol system.

Transporting colonists by Luxury Liner? That's going to take ages!

On a sidenote, as soon as Sheb Smith has finished his current assignement, he'll return on Earth and campaign for the "Hero of Titan" to take command of the first Jump-capable ship.

I'm doing this as a sort of narrative story, and they don't have working cryogenic chambers yet. :)

It makes sense in a way, the only way we know of to move people is via the airplane method of 'lots of seats', but that doesn't work for long voyages like Earth -> Titan which will take a while even with the nuclear thermal engines. Luxury liners would work as a people transport in the absence of cryogenics. Also it got the civilian sector running which is nice.

Right now the three survey ships are nearly done with sol's asteroid belts. Sheb will probably get a survey command jump tender. I plan to have smaller ships dock within a command ship which has advanced sensors and possibly some turreted beam weaponry and its own jump drive. Command ship will act as a supply ship/tanker for the survey vessels so they can stay out for a long long time.

Also, I need suggestions for my ground unit names at the division and brigade level. I'm working on a new division which will have 1 Assault Infantry brigade, 1 Heavy Assault brigade and 2 mobile infantry brigades. Each brigade consists of 4 battalions and a brigade command unit, all attached to a single division command unit. Going to redesign the Outreach troop transport to pick up/combat drop an entire division at once as well.

For the curious, here's the current ground forces on Earth:

27th February, 2013 - The 182nd Engineering Brigade has been reassigned to Titan to attempt salvage of ruined alien outpost. Scientists are still reviewing the scientific data recovered from the outpost. Initial reports suggest that the alien race abandoned the outpost more than 10,000 years ago and were known as the 'Khanate of Revo'.

The Daniel Zorns geology team have finished their survey of Titan, having found several hundred thousand tons of new mineral deposits. They have been moved to the Triton Civilian Mining Colony to uncover new minerals there.

TT Adder, the Outreach class troop transport, is being scrapped as plans are drawn up for a better troop transport with combat drop capability which will be capable of moving an entire division at once.

Also:

Code: [Select]
Captain Sheb Smith
Task Group S.O. Survey Command
GEV Yuri Gagarin (Sol System)

Time in Tour: 9 years, 4 months, 21 days
Health Condition: Excellent
Age: 43

27th February, 2013 - Awarded the Golden Cross for honorable service.

I have him set not to end his tour so the game doesn't reassign him yet.

13 February, 2014 - A team lead by Doctor Shawn Almada has made a major breakthrough in deciphering the alien scientific data recovered from Titan. The data suggests new theories and methods which would allow us to control gravity itself, and makes reference to a method of faster-than-light travel via stationary jump points. Doctor Almada states that we will need to survey the Sol system's possible jump point locations to detect minute anomalous gravity readings which will indicate the presence of stable jump points and allow us to explore other solar systems!

Doctor Almada is currently developing a gravitational survey sensor system in collaboration with Raytheon while Doctor Clement Fontenelle has been reassigned to develop an active gravitational sensor system which could be used to detect vessels at great distances.

12th March, 2014 - A civilian mining colony has been established on Iapetus and has begun returning minerals to Earth via mass driver. Velda Costillo has been assigned governorship of Iapetus and will manage mining operations.

15th March, 2014 - Geological survey of Sol system is nearly complete. GEV Yuri Gagarin and GEV Leif Ericson are returning to Portsmouth Orbital for maintenance overhaul while GEV Thor Heyerdahl completes the remaining survey targets.

13th July, 2014 - A civilian mining colony has been established on Rhea. Governorship awarded to Lorenzo Sanjuan.

13th January, 2015 - The Brazwell class Gravitational Survey Vessel has been designed and Portsmouth Orbital is being retooled for new construction.

18th June, 2015 - A team led by Doctor Dick Jacek has perfected a system of human cryogenic suspension which can be used to transport an unprecedented number of people safely through space without the necessity for food, entertainment, medical support or other amenities. A new vessel is being designed to utilize this cryogenic system for colonist transport. The Queensland class colony ship can carry 10,000 colonists in addition to its 90 crew and weighs in at just under 5500 tons. A massive improvement over the old Nelson class liner.

Brazwell class Gravitational Survey Vessel    700 tons     68 Crew     154 BP      TCS 14  TH 25  EM 0
1785 km/s     Armour 1-7     Shields 0-0     Sensors 1/1/1/0     Damage Control Rating 1     PPV 0
Annual Failure Rate: 3%    IFR: 0.1%    Maint Capacity 138 MSP    Max Repair 100 MSP    Est Time: 7.9 Years

15th July, 2015 - GSV Tycho Brahe and GSV Nicolaus Copernicus, both Brazwell class survey cutters, have been completed at Portsmouth Orbital and tasked with completing a gravitational survey of Sol system.

12th November, 2015 - A new jump point has been found by GSV Tycho Brahe, proving the theories correct. Plans are being drawn up to explore this new jump point. Survey Command task force has been established and plans for a survey command ship are being developed.

Posting to watch, quite a fun game...If not somewhat more hardcore than DF in a manner of speaking. :P

Also...Could you have an officer with the first name John captain your first jump scout? I know the risk...Actually I'm wondering what sort of an NPR a 6000M starting population would have generated.

I promised the first jump survey ship to Sheb but you could have a jump-capable escort which will follow them if you like, or wait for my 2nd survey group.

4th May, 2017 - Gravitational survey of Sol system is complete. 7 jump points found! Research is still underway to design and equip a survey command vessel which will allow exploration of these jump points.

Or one of the first missile-armed ships when it comes to that, then.

Admiral Yermakov
If possible, I want a ship in the main fleet. Something with alot of anti-missiles, to protect the fleet. Or any piece of junk you can throw together.
