Yup, engineer are equivalent to one construction factory. As for Marines/Marines Company, they're useful when boarding a ship/PDC: their attack and defense are multiplied by two in those situations.

I'm following this with interest! Any chance I could lead up an engineer brigade? Sounds like important and dangerous work!!

Maybe I should add a bit more detail to my character.:)
Code: [Select]
Jonathan Gustav, commanding one of the first anti-shipping missile armed warship. Thanks!

My empire has teleporters, like Star Trek.   ;D
Star Trek transporters are mostly limited at the range of 40000 kilometres.[/completelymissingthepoint]

EDIT: Nevermind.

This is a fun and well-written LP thus far, I'm enjoying it!  Could Commander (or whatever - rank not important) Narmio head up a Geosurvey team?  I do love me those tiny rock hammers.

4th March, 2018 - Lab testing proved that current solid-state laser designs were inadequate for use in a point defense role. Doctors Shawn Almada and Clement Fontenelle have been tasked with developing the science behind the weapon's power distribution systems to a workable point.

After many years of service, the Bayandor class freighter is being discontinued in favor of the new Spruance class freighter. Boasting 5 times the cargo capacity of the Bayandor and utilizing new cargo handling systems to speed loading/unloading times, the Spruance will lead a unified human race into the stars. Based on the new Spruance design, the Prince of Wales class colonial transport has also been commissions, replacing the Queensland colony transport.

To keep the survey fleets fueled as they head out among the stars, the Oregon class tanker ship has been designed. It carries 1 million litres of fuel, enough to sustain the fleet for years to come.

Designs for the Survey Command Ship are still underway, as our scientists are still struggling with constructing a working jump drive.

Each survey fleet will consist of:

3x Discovery III Geological Survey cutters
2x Brazwell Gravitational Survey cutters
1x Cornwallis Survey Command Ship
2x Oregon Tanker Ship
1x Scipio Civilian Jump Tender

Each fleet will be escorted by 2 beam destroyers, designs yet to be completed.

Ok, about these requests.

Sheb - Survey Command Ship

Sheb will have the first survey command ship off the line.

Neonivek - First alien planet

Neonivek will be governor of the first alien planet we conquer. May be a while...

breadbocks, Codecimal B. Thompson - Commander of Fleet

Thompson will be commander of fleet, just as soon as we have a fleet... and a fleet HQ.. and a flagship... etc.

JWNoctis, John - Missile Ship

Our missile technology has been more or less neglected in favor of developing viable lasers so far. I do plan to develop missile tech soon, but we have no scientists with a specialty in missile/kinetic weapons and we have 3 energy weapons scientists so it was the more efficient line of research for now.

Korbac, Professor Explodington - Weapons scientist

Code: [Select]
Scientist Valentine Explodington

Age: 21
Sex: Male
Health: Excellent

Assignment: 20cm Laser Focal Size
Research Bonus: 30% (Energy Weapons)
Administration Rating: 1 (5 labs)

Homeworld: Earth
Commissioned: 4th October, 2017
Education: Earth University
Time in Tour: 5 months

The Scout, Admiral Yermakov - "a ship in the main fleet. Something with alot of anti-missiles, to protect the fleet. Or any piece of junk you can throw together"

Will be in command of one of the new beam destroyers, once they're designed and built.

MasterFancyPants, General Barbrokoski - Commanding a Heavy Assault Battalion

Code: [Select]
Brigadier General Vladimir Barbrokoski

Age: 25
Sex: Male
Health: Excellent

Assignment: C.O. 213rd Heavy Assault Battalion
Homeworld: Earth
Commissioned: 20th December, 2013
Promoted: 11th February, 2016
Education: Earth Military Academy
Time in Tour: 0 days

Narmio, Commander (or whatever - rank not important) Narmio - head of Geosurvey Team

Have not yet made a new geosurvey team. I'll let you know when I do.

Haspen, Haspen McHaspennus - captain of first laser/beam/whatever warship you make.

Will command one of the beam destroyer escorts for the first survey fleet.

Flintus10, Commander Flint - Ship Commander

Will command one of the beam destroyer escorts.

Also: I decided to cut the beam destroyer escorts down to 2 because my current jump tech only allows squadrons of 3 to transit, including the jump ship. This means that the survey command ship and 2 escorts will transit then the 2 commercial tankers and the commercial jump tender will follow.Beam escorts back up to 3, will research 4 squadron transit tech.

24th April, 2018 - Recalled all Queensland and Bayander class vessels for scrapping and materials recovery. The engines and systems will be dismounted and used in the construction of the new Spruance/Prince of Wales class vessels.

Earth Governor Walter Marken has passed a bill granting large subsidies to the Nordine Transport Services corporation, hoping to encourage a larger civilian shipping sector.

2nd August, 2018 - Work has begun on two new orbital yards, one for naval ships and one for commercial construction.

The Nordine Transport Services Corporation has launched a new Prince of Wales class colonial transport and is ferrying hopeful colonists to Titan.

Plans are being lain to begin construction of colonial infrastructure on Mars.

2nd September, 2018 - Captain Sheb Smith promoted to Commodore

Never subsidized my civvies and I've got 4 civilian freighters in 2 companies, sitting around without much to do in my current 7 years old game.

Maybe it's a matter of luck? Those starting 1,500 wealth should be enough for them to purchase 2 average freighters depending on design.

2nd November, 2018 - The Rotterdam Drydock Co. has completed Earth's second orbital commercial shipyard. Chantiers de l'Atlantique has completed our second naval orbital yard. Both yards are undergoing size expansion and are engaged in assisting the scrapping of old Bayandor and Queensland class vessels.

Professor Shawn Almada has made a breakthrough in the theoretical research behind jump drive technology. We should soon be able to construct our own jump drives to begin exploration of the galaxy.

On Earth, the 235th Mobile Infantry Brigade and the 236th Armored Brigade are now at full strength. The 237th Assault Brigade is nearing completion, and the 238th Mobile Infantry Brigade's units are currently in training. Once completed, Earth will have 3 full divisions of TN level ground units protecting it.

Construction begins on the first 2 Oregon class tankers for the new survey fleet, the TK Isfahen and the TK Karachi

Remember too that I deliberately kept some of my tech low and ships inefficient for story purposes, only now starting to use really large cargo vessels/colony transports. That shipping line has been trying to earn money using a cargo ship with 1 cargo bay and a luxury liner as a passenger transport. They do earn money but it was slow. Now they have a full sized colony ship, it should pick up.
