I mean politically. Obviously, a communist society will be brought up by some one you, but there is one reason why this will not work. Hard work and incentive. In a utopian communist society, like we see in early Dwarf Fortress for example, is where everybody contributes to society and is provided for: "from each according to his ability to each according to his need" to quote Marx.

But, what if there was a system where people were rewarded for working hard and contributing more to society? Where people have an incentive to work hard to live a better life? Me and a few friends of mine; some of them who were Social Democratic and slightly Right wing, but "converted" to this system, call this Quotaism. People have a set quota that they have to fulfil, when the achieve this they are paid a base rate. Now, if they choose to exceed their Quota they are paid more since they contribute more society. This means that they have an incentive to contribute to society and to work hard. Notwithstanding this, people who choose not to work can choose to do so but in return they get nothing. There would be a very minimal benefit system as Jobs could be found for almost anybody, except the severely disabled, children and pregnant women.   

I would also like to see a growth in green energy and an active government role in Vertical Farming ( www.verticalfarm.com ).

In my opinion, everything would have to be state owned for this to be achieved. It would cut Bureaucracy and allow everybody to be paid fairly. I'd like to know what everyone thinks of this.

Problem: what if everyone exceeds their quota, and there isn't enough money to give them all bonuses? Or do you simply raise the quota to compensate? (either of which has an inherent demoralizing effect)

How do you set a quota in the first place? How does a quota apply in profession that isn't quantifiable? The idea semi-sorta works if we're all just working on an assembly line. But frankly, that social paradigm is about a century out of date.

Hmm it strikes me now that I have only really half explained the answer. One key idea: the abolition of currency, people are paid with vouchers etc which they can choose to cash in at shops etc. "Un-Quantifiable" jobs? Like Teaching and Doctors? I would encourage them the volunteer doing other menial tasks for example the quota is to work X hours a week. So then they could choose to do other work in those free days.

The quotas would be set by Job. For example you have to work X hours or make Y units. It would be flexible.

My utopia...I don't have one, because the world shouldn't be influenced by only one person's beliefs or views. To me... A utopia is what is going on now. There are bad bits, and there are good bits... But we all shape it, even if its only a little bit.

Not even going to touch the quota aspect right now, but really, you wouldn't be abolishing currency with this.  The "vouchers" would be the new currency.

Man you make communism sound scary Work your life in a cave, get rewarded a tiny room with only a bed a coffer a cabinet and no place to walk so you have to crawl over your stuff, see some dwarves get really high in the hierarchy, ask for stuff and make you suffer if their fancies aren't met, and then they die in an "unfortunate accident" and then you die too because of some stupid reason - like a gigantic megaproject that put basic survival needs second in importance.

You know what I mean Ancre Also, Maoist China was "Communist" although the economy was state planned, neither was Stalinist Russia, they both had more akin with fascism.

Also White_darkness, the idea is that vouchers can be lent at interest easily. It would also mean that you can control what you pay workers with. For example it makes it easier to ration food or electrical goods if a state of emergency was needed.

Utopia is unsustainable and impossible to achieve. What makes the utopia a utopia would also be it's flaws.

Wouldn't this just encourage people to work more often, but at reduced quality? Why bother being good if all that matters is the numbers on the clock?

Because units produced would have to be at a sufficient quality. If you work below quality consistently, might as well exile them
