Came across something like this a few months ago.

There is also a real life version of this, but it is much more complex. I think it's called the Tonori-On. It looks brilliant

Just googled it. Checked out a demo on their site.

FUCKING AMAZING.

edit: It's a bit out of my price range though...

I just clicked in a spiral going inward. By the time I had reduced the unlit portion to a 6 by 6 square, I had destroyed the light show. I wonder how else I should try it.
