The only problem with weapon traps is that they tend to get jammed.

And if that don't work, then use more trap.

Pretty sure stealthed Goblin units only set off Cage Traps: not Weapon, Stonefall, etc. traps. Was someone saying their Weapon Traps revealed stealthed thieves and snatchers by exploding them?

Kobolds never set off any trap unless they are standing on it and become unconscious. That's if they even survive world gen (currently they don't)

If you take the SKULKING tag off Kobolds they will siege you instead of sending thieves, and their trap immunity becomes truly terrifying in that context when 75+ Kobolds just waltz into your fortress.

That explains my lack of thieves and baby snatchers then...

I've had stealthed gobs set off weapon traps before.  Or at least I assume is happening whenever I find some extra goblin clothes a bag, and a grey goblin corpse on a weapon trap.

Like this floor-mounted artifact serated steel disk trap.  Designed by me.

And you better hope... you're not standing on it.

The toad is having a nice relaxing swim.
The goblin mounted on his back, however, is drowning.

Not problems like "Which way should I build this wall from" because that would fall under the perview of your conundrums known as common sense...

That reminds me. I haven't been getting Kobold thieving attempts in this fortress. I wonder what happened...

Dwarf Mechanic: I solve practical problems.
Going to try foor a full transcipt kinda thing.

*MEET THE MECHANICS*
(Cut to a dwarven mechanics sitting on a barrel in front of a wall, taking a long pull from a barrel of beer before putting it down.)
Hey look, pink-skin, I'm an mechanics.  And that means I solve problems.
(A dart landed right next to him)
Not problem like "Are nobles useful?", because that would fall within the purview of your conundrums of playstyle.
(Two bolts landed next to his head)
I solve practical problem.
(Took another pull from the barrel.  A battlecry from an approaching goblin silenced by a thud and crunching sound).
Fr'instance.
(Camera sees a kobold approaching from the left corridor).
How am I going to stop some annoying green little elvse hubbard from dividing me into two dwarves?
(The kobold lounges, right before a massive hammer crushes it into the ground).
The answer?
(The sound of a sword swing, followed by the sound of something squishy landing).
Use a trap.
(Sound of trap resetting with a click).
And if that don't work...
(At a distance an increasing volume of the battlecry of goblins can be heard, followed by another click)
Use more traps.
(The sound of battlecry turns to screams of terror, then silence.  A goblin's head rolls into view)
Like this floor mounted artifact weapons trap, designed by me...
(Kicks the goblin's head into it, and it gets impaled on a spike).
Build by me...
(Camera changes to a view of a troll charging at the mechanic, who promptly get evicerated by several serated steel disk)
And you best hope... not right under you.
(Camera zooms along the corridor towards the entrance as it captures scene of goblins, trolls, kobolds and elves getting pulverized, incinerated, drowned, impaled, blended, crushed, thrown, dropped and bridge-atomized by numerous traps)

Except, you know, they are goblins. Your guard kitten should be more than enough to slaughter them.

I decided to let down my gates to let the goblins charge at my fort, then lift it when they were near, but unfortunatly all my war dogs chased out to meet them and got butchered.
I just had some luck with my Dog Brigade. Due to some poor planning I was reorganizing my newish fortress, and when a caravan showed up I built a temporary depot out on the lawn... forgetting that goblins tend to follow the caravans in.  And they were only about a dozen tiles away when I spotted them.  So I disabled my dog pen just inside my gate, drew a new one over the depot, and resumed the game.  About a dozen war dogs charged out, killed two goblins and wounded two others, and the rest ran away.  It was over in a heartbeat.

I think I didn't lose and dogs, but I'm not sure.

Goblin thieves and even goblin ambushes in stealth approach mode set off weapon traps just fine. I regularly see this happen.
