Maximizing blood loss?

I recently modded Dwarf Fortress so that the blood of certain species have different values. Currently, I put the blood of Elves at the highest. The dwarves collect the blood and put it into buckets and sell it for 1000 DBs a bucket. Any ideas so I can maximize the blood loss of elves without killing them?

Helmet snakes? Serrated disks?

You could mod helmet snakes so that instead of minor bleeding, it's hemorrhagic wounds >:D

They die too quickly from serrated disks. I want them to bleed out slowly so I can get my money's worth. :)

Helmet snakes should help a lot. Bleeding is a short term symptom, but if you make it long term...

I'll give it try, but I'm worried their limbs will off from necrosis. But that's alright,  you can't keep everyone alive for profit forever. :D

You could take necrosis off too. That'd work.

Lever activated upright spear traps.

Mod in glass spears and use those.

They are crazy sharp, so will cut well, but due to their low other weapon stats, shouldn't cause much in the way of serious trauma. By having the spear trap with just 1-2 spears (test for best results), you can ensure nice blood loss without causing limb loss or bleeding out.

If you have your area set up like this:

W == wall
^ == spear trap
# == wall grate
%> == pump stack that outputs to the right
D == Door
X == floodgate
H == channel/open space
~ == water
+ == smoothed floor

Z + 1:
wDwww
H%>HD
wwwww

Z 0:
wwwwwww
~ww^#Hw
wwwwwww

Z -1:
a holding area and then drainage system. Make sure you use hatches rather than floor grates so none of your blood washes away.

How it works is that you have a pit zone in the same square as the pump stack's water output, and pityour elf in. He lands in the 1x1 square above the spear trap. He can't path anywhere, so will always be here. Once you have triggered your spear that you have sufficient blood in the area for your use, activate your pump. It should wash all the blood down past the elf, through the wall grate, down into your reclamation area. This way your "harvester" dwarves don't get spooked by the elf and produce job cancelation spam. Once all blood has been harvested, repeat.

Note: This design only works if the blood harvesting works like a cross between cleaning and web gathering. I don't know of any other way you could do it.

In all seriousness, I thought Toady fixed glass edges. Or are they still super sharp, but sucky for other stuff?
I think you should use a looted large copper dagger or something to attack the elf. Since copper is a really poor material, and daggers are really poor weapons, that should keep your elf from getting hit too deep (mostly tearing the skin, tearing the muscle/bruising the bone at worst). To keep your dwarves from cutting off limbs and killing (barring lucky shots), make a different dwarf play "Cut-the-Elf" each time.
Idea! Make it into a party game with prizes for whoever can bleed the elf the most.

On my map, there is a constant flood from the near constant rain coming from a lake i channeled out over a year ago. I will sometimes watch my marksdwarves go hunting on this area of swamp land. When they shoot something, all the blood washes down into the nearby river, and there is a ton of it.

I think arrows might help too, is what im trying to say. If youre using bone bolts, a marksdwarf might need to go get more before he finishes the job. If you have some way of washing this away (the water would need to flow to multiple spots, right?) you could make a quick profit by having your collectors constantly running between the blood and stockpile.

What you gotta do is kill elven traders, gather up their blood, and sell it back to them next year. You will have to use metal buckets for the full effect.

They are cannibals anyways, so they will probably just treat it like a fine wine.

Nah, mod in buckets made of blood.

On a serious note, aren't serrated disks incredibly bloody/messy? I have just two 10/10 copper disk weapon traps near my fortress entrance, and I've seen them cause a thief to nearly explode and coat at least a 5x5 area completely with blood. Perhaps, though, yours pools up rather than just applying once to a surface?

How are you getting the dwarves to gather the blood? That doesn't seem like it should be doable.
