Colors in character descriptions
« on: April 08, 2011, 08:27:09 pm »

Ever wonder what exactly all those color names in character appearances look like? For instance, what in blazes does buff hair look like, or heliotrope eyes, or pale taupe skin? With a little digging, I was able to find a highly relevant wikipedia article on the subject:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_colors

Now I know that buff refers to a kind of yellowy color rather than how much the hair works out, and that my latest bunch of racially homogenous dwarves are colored thusly:

I just searched the article for the colors in question, copypasta'd the html codes into the GIMP, and whipped up that image in a matter of seconds. I hope this helps other people visualize their characters as much as it has myself. Feel free to grab and recolor that image and/or discuss your dwarves' interesting colorations, et cetera.

To be fair, if you look at the color raw files, it says they were taken from wikipedia

I'd imagine that very same page, too.

Because it classifies as an ore.  "Shallow Metal".  And you can't make it into anything at all, except maybe a wall.

Other boring stones don't take the place of useful ore in a mineral scarce world, either.

You can't like it.  Microline doesn't exist.

Microcline exists.

(Says he who tends to say "silver barb" instead of "sliver barb", although it makes perfect sense that a silver-containing plant would produce black dye, so you see why this particular thinko/typo persists in your present interlocutor's mind...)

Of course Microline exists, you just haven't heard of it because it's so...

Underground.

really wanna see someone make a utility that takes all the color and facial data from sapient creature descriptions and makes a face out of it.  I know Stonesense at least does hair and skin, so it's gotta be doable.

Unless the face is made from microcline I AM NOT INTERESTED.

That is all.
