Deleting All Clothes
« on: April 08, 2011, 06:57:07 pm »

If I delete all of the clothes files, and gen a new world, what effects will it have? But first, what will I have to delete?

Delete all entries for clothes from the entity files of all the races. Then if you want to, go into the item_armour, item_helm, item_gloves, etc files and remove the entries for the various clothing in those as well.

All you really need to do is go into the entity file, and delete the all the references to clothing in that civ for all the different races.

Then, even with clothing files still around, nobody will know how to make any clothes.  It's easier to reverse, that way.

Hehe, I should have mentioned that the 2nd part was optional, oh well. And you are right about it being easier to reverse if you just do the first. But then again I make backups and move them to different folders for that sort of thing.

Nope, they only get an unhappy thought when the clothes actually rot off. But since they have no clothes to rot off in the first place, they are perfectly fine.

I can think of a few problems you might encounter.

Firstly clothes provide warmth in cold climates. You might have noticed civ members wear appropriate clothing for their home climate. So beware cold places or perhaps give dwarves a layer of fur like the Muskox.

Secondly clothes provide some defence from attack. Animals often find it hard to bite through even peasant clothing.

Thirdly clothes provide some defence from syndromes. You might have heard tales of all the animals in a fort having leg rot due to a lack of shoes and a felled titan.

One way you could get around all these problems is to have one item of clothing that covers the whole body much like the dress currently does.

Who knows.  It will probably be fixed when the Economy is fixed.

One thing to be aware of tho: clothing protects against liquid toxins.  You could run into quite alot of FUN, even if you imagine they have clothes.  Which is fair enough, since they shouldn't protect against liquid toxins anyways, since it would just sop right through the fabric in the first place.  But it also means you won't have dwarves being unaffected by toxins only to bring them back into the fortress for everyone to enjoy.

Which is probably why I still have clothes in my raws, but then again I suppose I could start issueing high boots and guantlets to everyone, except my silly miners and lumberjacks. Though I do like having my dwarves well dressed in the finest dyed pig tail clothing yanno.
