I want the pick back, please.
« on: April 08, 2011, 06:05:21 pm »

I froze a miner in an aquifer. (It was an accident, honest!)
The aquifer is melted now.
What happened to the pick?

According to the stocks menu, both pick and skeleton are still in the aquifer, along with (I think) Mr. Miner's clothes. But...When I zoom to them or 'k' manually, nothing is there except the muddy loamy sand upward slope, 7/7 water, and a dusting of mud.
What happened to the miner and his stuff?

It all turned into ice. No way to recover it.

Really?
A. I thought the wiki said all that happened when you got frozen was you died, and when the ice unfroze your skeleton and stuff fell to the ground where the ice melted.
B. Then why is it still listed on the stocks screen?

If you wait till the water freezes again, then mine out the area so your dwarves have access to the area, they might be able to retrieve the pick, clothes, and skeleton.  The fact that they're still on the stocks menu shows they weren't destroyed, just made inaccessible in the same way objects pushed by water sometimes do.  If your dwarves can reach the area safely, they can reach into limbo and recover the items.

...
This is a problem.
The modded race I used for this fort only has iron and silver, so I only brought one pick.
It is, theoretucally, sitting in 7/7 water.
I...am in trouble.

Can you build pumps?

I am trying to make chickens lay bees as eggs. So far it only produces a single "Tame Small Creature" when a hen lays bees.
Honestly at the time, I didn't see what could go wrong with crowding 80 military Dwarves into a small room with a necromancer for the purpose of making bacon.

No. Desert or somewhere where the only trees are saguaros. (EDIT: And the only green is piles of vomit...not that this is at all related.) I clear-cut the "trees" and turned them into a new woodcutter axe (the metal one being used by my military), a trade depot, and some other buildings and stuff.
Plus, I think that needs mechanisms, at least for power, and two solid-ground squares (which I lack), and some other stuff I don't think I have.

Why? Do you see some way it could save the objects?

reclaim. Doesn't sound as if you are very far in anyway, and this time you can bring some stone for mechanisms and a backup pick or two.

Christ, are you dwarves or are you elves? If you think Hell has too many demons, then youkill them till the population reaches an acceptable number.
Dwarf Fortress: So horrifying the players would rather talk about nice things, like Warhammer 40k.
