Downloading, PLEASE HELP!

I've been having trouble trying to Save my game. Its not really a but so I decided to post my problem here. When I download the Folder I go in and I click Dwarf Fortress.exe, play the game some, SAVE, and then quit. When I go back into the Folder I click on Dwarf Fortress.exe and guess what, all my saved data is gone! I am using the newest version of the game, and I download the Windows SDL one. I'm downloading the Lazy Newb Pack to see if that makes a difference. If you know a way to help PLEASE post. :-\

Check data/save in your DF folder. Is there anything in there after you save?

Are you hitting "Continue Playing" or "Start Playing"?  The save folder disappears out of the "Start Playing" menu after you have embarked there.

Are you playing directly out of the .zip file, or did you uncompress everything to a regular folder?

There is nothing in the folder when I open it, I am opening the game directly form the .zip file, and when I quit the game and go back in it doesn't even give me the option of "Continue Playing".

I highly doubt it, but are you abandoning the fort rather than saving? I know you've said save but... well, best to cover every base.

It's probably not a good idea to play out of the compressed file. I don't know exactly if it hurts you, but it can't be good. Try extracting the files and then saving, see if that's the problem.

Extract the file, your saves should work.
