Vanishing zombie corpses?
« on: April 08, 2011, 04:19:51 pm »

So, my .25 map is seething with zombie alligators, hippos, rhinos, carp, etc.  Very dwarfy.

Problem is:  I don't see the kills on my military dorfs, and there.  Are.  No.  Bodies!  >:[

Is this a known bug?  I was so looking forward to the piles and piles of valuable bones.

Zombies don't leave corpses, and don't register as kills. No bonepile for you.

But--but--

T_T

Is this fixable by modding?  What about skeletal animals?

I thought they left rotting corpses?

Meh. I don't embark on evil biomes anyway  :P

You should be happy. Skeletons and bones cause FPS hell to me. :'(

I think vanishing undead corpses are a bug. But you can still get some bones if you sever their limbs before killing them.

Vanishing is intentional so that they aren't too hard to kill, as they were in early .31 versions. If you take direct control of undead in arena, it even tells you that "You have vanished!" or something like that.

The fact that they tend to vanish after 1 or 2 hits could be called a bug though. Currently they are not very dangerous because of that.

How does killing a zombie, and then making it's body vanish, make it any easier to fight? =/

Or perhaps you're just sadistic and enjoy slow-cooking your goblins/kittens/nobles.

They use some kind of simple HP type system or something.

It's a bit silly. They should keep coming at you no matter what, until you give 'em a whack in the head with the shovel. Err, pick.
And not getting any credit for killing them is just lame. :/

I guess it prevents dorfs from not caring about anything at all any more before the first year is up...  then again, if I had to face an endless siege of undead wildlife, it'd take a toll on me, too.

At least it's keeping my military in shape.

Self cleaning zombies!  Leave only the fresh scent of pine.

The really odd thing is that if they die to traps they almost always leave a corpse.

If a dwarf kills them they just vanish.

Did you check their combat logs? I'd say that the traps are able to inflict critical damage in very short period of time, so that the mob actually gets destroyed the old way before it vanishes. When you have lot of skilled dwarves and lots of undead targets (as with HSF) the dwarves can get few lucky kills as well, before the undead mobs have time to react to their HP limit.

How does killing a zombie, and then making it's body vanish, make it any easier to fight? =/

It's more like: "Lyemaker strikes skeletal wolf in the upper left front leg, but the attack glances away!" and then the wolf vanishes.
