Glitchy human caravan
« on: October 31, 2007, 01:05:00 am »

My first outpost to last long enough to have the humies come in. Besides the (probably now widely known) problem that they ignored my Southwards road and instead went for a rally from the West (and crossed a brook with a caravan, too :S), one of the caravans managed to go through one extra z layer while going down a ramp, ending up in my fortress, from which normally they wouldn't be able to exit (the exit was just a 1-tile hatch). But somehow they managed to glitch through that, too.

Due to their little rally, they had to leave before they even got there and as if just to mock me, they left via road. :\

I just had that happen too, it took the wagons so long to get there that they left. I didn't have a road though. I had the glitchyness too, the leaving wagons just popped up in my food stores for a moment.

Also had this with a wagon 'jumping' into my food stockpile below the depot.

At least it was hilarious.

Yeah the caravan doesn't automatically enter your site based on where the road is.  You might want to just stockpile blocks until you know which side they come on and then build the road for next year.

I've noticed this wagon jumping behavior as well.  It seems while the wagon is travelling it is able to change up or down one z-level without any way to get there.  I tunneled through a one z-level hill to build them a road, and they blinked back and forth from the subterranean road and the surface of the hill.

Having a wagon jump up/down in a z level could just be a display issue, depending on the exact setup.  It doesn't draw the wagon tiles one at a time on different level, to keep the wagon looking coherent.  If the wagon somehow thought it should have been a level above, it would pop up.  The system needs some tweaking.
