We're all friends with each other.  We do a damn thing except Attend Parties all day and night, and Console the crap out of each other.  Lets just hope somebody put some work into the decorations.

No, he's right. We're too friendly. As soon as somebody dies, we'll all be pissed and start wrecking up the place because of the unhappy thoughts.
Unless Toady makes a really epic waterfall in the forum dining room.

...Speaking of which, we really need a forum dining room.

We'll just rack up happy thoughts by engraving posting artifact rants in the sad thread, and then admiring other finely crafted engravings posts in the happy thread.

That would be the Happy Thread. It is also the forum living room.

No, It's TANTRUM = TRUE/FALSE (threshold < unhappyness/Amount of friends, threshold > unhappiness/Amount of friends)

Fixed.

If GD isn't a legendary dining hall, I don't know what is. This, perhaps, but only because of the sheer surface area that's smoothed marble.

In the days when Sussman was a novice, Minsky once came to him as he sat hacking at the PDP-6.
“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

You just know that there is a guy on these forums that nobody has ever met, because he never spends any time in the forums, just out with he's cross bow bringing back corpses for Aqizzar to butcher.

(And the one that consistenly has good spelling too :P).
The (very) occasional grammar nazi'ing may drive off some people with bad spelling...

It's only occasional because some of us haven't bitten our tongues off yet.

Yes, good people, I do have a censor, and its thankless task is Herculean (and mostly not grammar-related).  :P

It's an interesting net phenomenon that causes rational mature communities to pop up, B12 isn't the only one, XKCD has probably got the most mature, high-minded forum that I know of, and is THE place to go if you want to geek out. There's other forums which are good to go to for more rational communities, but personally I prefer this one for a number of reasons, foremost that it's the only one I know of to have a nice, mature, rational community, centered around games, that isn't afraid of the ASCII.

Heck on the subject of games this place has a few solid claims to it's name, it's the runner up for "gooning" games (we tend to do it in a nicer way, though we can still be dicks about it), and has been the center of the playerbase for quite a few small games, more than once a relatively unknown game suddenly gets hit with B12's slashdot effect.

I'm pretty sure quite a lot of games have gotten their big premier here, like prospector, and minecraft.

VN is VN. Its no longer part of this forum, expect in spirit.

Plus we dont really have any radicals here. So its a chill atmosphere.

What was VN?

Various nonsense. My friend once showed me a massive quote pyramid made in there. It broke the forums, to my knowlege.

So, it was just a massive "spam to your heart's content" forum?

Interesting.

Personally, I think the forums are so clean because of a few reasons:

A relativly small userbase: Not many trolls know about us
Dwarf Fortress: Acts as a great filter for the trolls that DO find us
Great community: Frowns on trolls, doesn't feed the trolls and as such, the trolls shrivel up and drop off.
