Steam execution chamber?
« on: April 08, 2011, 07:22:29 am »

I've been trying to build the perfect steam death chamber. I've so far simply made this.
Upper Z level
Code: [Select]
--------------
X Magma Tunnel
--------------
Lower Z Level
Code: [Select]
-------------------
water               Bars/!!
----------------
I postioned the upper z level so the magma pours directly in front of the bars, therefore scalding the goblin I release from the cage, once I pull the lever. The problem is, I have to keep tunneling it out once it forms obsidian. Anyone want to pitch a better design?

The only problem I see is that steam hasn't been deadly since the 2D versions. It's unfortunate as I had similar ideas.

The closest you can get to deadly steam is magma mist. Magma mist is caused when natural terrain caves into lava / magma.

Put a retractable bridge above lava and just drop prisoners in and praise the local deity with sacrifices

Or perhaps you're just sadistic and enjoy slow-cooking your goblins/kittens/nobles.

I believe you can also get Magma Mist from Magmafalls, which is why trying to make your dorfs happy with one in the dining room isn't necessarily a brilliant idea, unless you've managed to limit it to "Nobles only".  :P

I'm pretty sure you can't JAFANZ as I tried that too and was sorely disappointed.

I remember an old design where people made chambers that could be flooded, and had there floors heated with magma. Superheated the water and cooked the goblins or something like that...

Vorthon that was due to a bug fixed since release 0.31.05. If I remember correctly creatures with water on them would melt if they were on a warm enough tile. In some maps rain and the ambient temperature was enough.

I remember that bug. I know it  was fixed, I just thought it had only been fixed for rain.
