We've found it.
Thought a legend by all but the craziest of dwarves, The Prestigious Fire is truly a sight to behold.
The Volcano.
Armok's blood boils from its peak, trees cover its sides, and (legend has it) there is treasure to be found beneath it.
For the glory of the dwarves, WE CLAIM THIS LAND!

Maybe we are crazy.

hmm, higher up the mountain closer to the volcano gives us less land for any sort of pasture. I suppose we could put the pasture down where the wagon is, and wall it off, using a tunnel to the rest of the fort.

Or make it underground...

Underground pastures require moss to grow, and that takes time. Time for finding the cavern and digging out the area, muddying the rock if there isn't soil, and then just waiting for the moss to grow enough to feed the animals.

On the bright side, the birds will be fine stuffed into say a 3x3 rock closet with a nest box in the center for each species.

Just dig out some soil at the top of the fortress, find the cavern(s) and there you go.

Day 1:
After a rousing speech TolyK started ordering us all about like he was a manager or something (ed: he is, and most everything else). We're digging in near the peak, chopping all the trees in the area and moving stock inside.
I (Falk) have been made militia commander and sheriff. It entitles me to a good couple of private rooms, but that'll have to wait. Edosurist is with me, and Yogni's been made a captain, but we don't have any other marksdwarves yet.

Day 18:
Badgers!
Badgers snuck up to our entrance and had a sniff around, but so far no trouble.
Also seen a moose and some wild turkeys.

Day 85:
It is now Summer. Strange how quickly time passes here.
We have dug out a main staircase and barracks (which will be our dorms until individual rooms are placed), as well as having built a trade depot (never to early for that) and designated the farm. Our animals have been designated space outside our entrance for now, they'll be penned in properly later.
Next priority is getting the farm up, and then the workshops. Taricus has volunteered to be acting mason/stonecrafter for now, until we find ore.
