Creature Population Limits

Are there still limits for the local population for each species? Is it possible to breed 800 untamed giant badgers?

You could go above 50 by giving them an amazingly high litter/clutch size. :P

Modifying their litter size is the easiest way. The other option is via caravan. Animals won't breed further after they cross fifty members, but they can be imported after that. Give dwarves ANY_PET_RACE and you can request that your caravans will bring giant badgers. Well, if they have access to their home biome.

Hmm... Let's say you have 1 male giant badger and 49 females. If you slaughter one of the females, will all of the others drop sprogs in unison six months later?

If you have 50 or more animals of a species, they will stop breeding. Doesn't stop you from catching more, I think.

If I understand the rules correctly, it also might help to create multiple species of giant badger. You can only breed 50 of each, but if there are ten species...BWAHAHAHAA!

If you have 50 war giant badgers, it will probably be enough to stop most sieges...

"Wanna go attack the dwarves?"
"Dude, they have literally FIFTY GIANT WAR BADGERS!"
"Holy shit. Let's go raid the humans... probably less badgers"

Though I have not tested anything. I've just heard that giant badgers are better physical fighters than demons.

Oh, I wasn't talking about war giant badgers. I was talking about TRAINING my military against WILD giant badgers. Because if my military trains by fighting giant badgers, the few that survive (with at least one arm) will be the most badass dwarves ever.

...Are demons wimps now, or are dwarves more badass?
If your military can handle critters that can take down demons, sieges should be no problem.
