I have made the point clear that this means nothing. And the "mass effect is better than mgs" statment is effectively moot.

MGS is a Stealth game and Mass Effect is a RPG. There is no way to say if one is better because they are of entirely differently genres.

We're having a nice, calm discussion here, and you come in with your picture, and ruin it.
I know it's your opinion, but you could have voiced it in a different way, for example, with words, and I would have been okay with it.
But no, you came in here with a picture-only post, and disrupted the whole conversation, making yourself look like nothing but a child.

On topic:
It took me three votes on that to get to two games that area actually worth comparing to each other, StarCraft, and WarCraft. The others were Fallout and Assassins Creed, Mass Effect and Resident Evil, and GTA and Legend of Zelda.
Something is seriously wrong with this poll.
Also, I was surprised that more people voted for WarCraft than StarCraft, or maybe it's that my views of a stereotypical gamer is off by a little bit.

You do also realize that most of the more "elite" gamers don't bother with those polls anyway, but I guess it wouldn't matter too much since the majority are people that don't really care for non-mainstream in the first place.

I'd go with MGS in terms of badassness.
In mass effect your character is just an empty canvas that you need to fill. By the end of mass effect my character turned out to be more of a douche instead of badass whereas in MGS no matter how much fail you commit, cutscenes will compensate for everything.

Any ranking that lacks Baldur's Gate series as a participant is worthless and incomplete.
Still, they didn't add Megaman or Pokemon this time, so it's a step forward i guess?

Baldur's Gate wasn't THAT good.  It was absolutely a niche game by any stretch of the imagination, and I'm not sure I could argue that it broke any new ground--it took concepts that have been around since the early Ultima series, combined them with D&D mechanics, and packaged them up rather neat and tidy...but for wide appeal, even among people here?  Dunno.  Pokemon OTOH energized a couple of generations.  Hell a couple of my best friends met on a Pokemon roleplaying newsgroup like eight years ago and are married now.  Good luck finding that with Baldur's Gate.

Silent Hill had terrible controls, repetitive and fake-difficult combat, and was often confusing in bad ways.  It didn't deserve omg instant victory in any contest.

Tropico had 'amusing' going for it, and was pretty awesome in theory, but had an awful lot of problems like having to juggle your people around just to make them live in the right places--and god help you if you wanted your construction guys to build something across the island.  They're more distractable than dwarves.  2d buildings on a 3d grid where you couldn't easily see the grid lines, not pretty either.  Also, both 1 and 3 had plenty of issues that needed expansions to fix, and 2 was an entirely different game.

Yeah...I'd actually have to agree with popular sentiment on a lot of these games, contrary to a lot of forumite opinions.  I /liked/ a lot of the underdogs, but that doesn't make them better games.  Kind of how I can /like/ eating raw bell peppers, and a lot of people could agree that they're delicious if you have the stomach for them, but that doesn't make raw bell peppers a very good dish on par with whatever fancy pasta!
