I forgot the forgotten beast
« on: April 07, 2011, 03:44:46 pm »

As the title says, I think my games all forgot about forgotten beasts. In DF mode, I've fought an ettin, a cyclops, and had a bronze colossus famously invade Dragonwork. In adventure mode, I've beat the hell out of titans and dragons and etc, but they don't count. In Fortress mode, I've -never- encountered a dragon. I've -never- encountered a titan. I've -never- encountered a forgotten beast. I've dug into the caverns, I've explored them fully, I've thrown drunken dwarven parties down there. Nothing. Not even a trogolodyte or kobold. I've NEVER seen a kobold in Fortress mode, only adventure. I can't even remember the last time I was seiged, even in a fort that had a population of 130 and a wealth of almost 2 million.

tl;dr, how the hell do I start pissing off monsters?

My forts get attacked before I get 20 dwarves: I have to spend the first year building awesome bridge traps. I'd edit world paramaters and make a special world with lots of bad stuff in it.

Check your init files if [INVADERS] is set to "NO".

It shouldn't be, unless that's default. I've only changed my pop cap and turned off damp stone notices.

What values would one alter to get more fun in their world?

Large beasts in regular gen, and in Advanced you can specifically control what population you need.

As for kobolds, currently stealing is not working out to well for them and they all starve off at precisely year 4 99% of the time.

It's basically random whether you get a megabeast, a semimegabeast, a titan or a Forgotten beast. Give it a little time, you'll get them all eventually.
