Any good mods for guns
« on: April 07, 2011, 11:55:20 am »

Are there any good mods that add guns and stuff to dwarf fortress, also is there any way to have a ranged weapon use non-solid ammo? I know some gun mods exist I just dont know of any specific ones

I'd like to know this too.

A legendary dwarf with a +shotgun+, in a hallway full of goblins is to be feared.

The problem is that due to the way ranged weapons are implemented in Dwarf Fortress, it's hard to mod in firearms very well, unless you use single-shot weapons like muskets ( Shameless plug goes here -> http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=78471.0 ). There is also the wasteland mod by Deon http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=54561.0 which adds a few firearms as well. I don't think that DF can have things like miniguns or shotguns modded in very well the way things are now, however.

Spread fire - Impossible
Automatic Weapons - Impossible

Basically any gun modded in will be, for all intents and purposes, a bow.

Not that they don't exist, or that I don't use them.

Automatic Weapons - Impossible

Actually, when your dwarves get their skill up, it's impossible to mod in non-automatic weapons.

SHOOT_MAXVEL seems to be the tag that determines reload rate, as a projectile now has to land before a second can be launched. SHOOT_FORCE determines muzzle velocity.

Never used Dwarf Therapist, mods or tilesets in all the years I've been playing.
I think Toady's confusing interface better simulates the experience of a bunch of disorganised drunken dwarves running a fort.

Okay then, point.  I should have said:

By-Weapon control of firing rate- IMPOSSIBLE.

Eh? Better?

SHOOT_MAXVEL controls the maximum shot velocity of the projectiles.  SHOOT_FORCE determines how hard it hits.  Note that higher skill will mean higher velocities, which is why MAXVEL is there.  It's very limited on Crossbows so that you can't make the machine give you much more than default, but they have a high FORCE so they do a good amount of damage.
