It's really funny watching them do unnecessary surgery because of a wrong diagnosis.
the conditions were bad enough to turn a dwarf who didn't care about anything mad, that's pretty hardcore.

Were it not for my dysgraphia, I would love to take a turn. Alas, I have great difficulty doing long writing stints. If possible however, I will take a dwarf - name as Neo.

Honestly, the writing can be pretty short. A picture's worth a thousand words, and all that.  If you want a turn, I say go for it and let everyone figure out your screenshots as they can.

You can be creative with it and mix images with broken text: some examples:

Fragmented storytelling from a drunk / insane dwarf, with images scribbled on napkins.

Narrating the story from the point of view of an adventurer of the far future examining engravings in a certain section of the fortress.

If truly bad things happen, perhaps narrating back and forth from the point of view of an elven warrior to that of a dwarven warrior.

How did I miss the existence of this thread?
(Don't attempt to answer that.  Down that path lies ... well I was going to say madness but you all run towards madness as if it was made from chocolate and puppies.  Just forget I said anything.)

Well then, I guess I'll have to give it a try. Put me down after the people who are taking there turns and I'll try to muddle my way through it. As this would be my first succession fort, you can probably expect lots of Fun.

Journal of "Neo" Cattenanam, Miner-by-Trade, Overseer-by-Necessity
1st Granite, 1074
So, the last overseer retired. Splendid, as if we needed more instability. Worse, now I've been selected to lead this fort. Apparently, there's some kind of tradition that the overseer has to keep a journal, I suspect for auditing purposes by those assholes at the Mountainhome. I'm just going to go over our records of the inhabitants of this fort... By Etur!

Why was I never made aware of all the uninvitied guests and the unrestful dead? What have our leaders been doing? It seems that someone will have to investigate this. But for now there are more important things to do.
After looking at our food stocks I have concluded that we are indeed set for quite a while. So, I will attend to the issue of making a mark on the landscape. It has come to my attention that we need some landmark. It will make a statement of defiance to the wilderness. We need to say to all that we are strong and here to stay. We will not be defeated by the wilderness, or by any external force! But what shape should this monument take? A hammer? A pick? Or something different? It shall be a hammer. And it shall be made entirely of rock blocks! It shall have a haft 10 levels tall and 3 blocks wide on both sides. The head of the hammer will be 9 blocks long and 3 blocks wide and tall. Finally, it will be mounted on top of a rock and ice pedestal as well.
3rd Granite, 1074

Apparently a jeweler, while I was busy planning the Hammer of the Rock, finished his mysterious construction. Somehow, out of a single massive green tourmaline, he carved an entire coffin!

Truly magnificent if I do say so myself, and it is worth 108000 Urists! In other news, construction has begun.

9th Granite, 1074
Finally, the first bricks have been laid. I do not know whether I will be able to finish this project in my term as overseer, but I will certainly try. Additionally, the mayor has preempted my work request. He mandated hatch covers! This will indeed be useful for the project at hand. I have also changed the storage location of stone blocks to be closer to the construction, which should speed it up somewhat.
16th Granite, 1074
I have begun caging the stray animals. This should greatly reduce fortress clutter.
21st Granite, 1074
The pedestal is at last completed. Now, on to the haft.

3rd Slate, 1074
    Construction is proceding on schedule.

At this rate, I may be able to finish the project before the year is over.
10th Slate, 1074
Migrants! 10 of them to be precise. They shall be helpful in the continued construction of the monument. Now that the haft of the hammer is complete, construction has been accelerated and more hands are always useful.

27th Slate, 1074
At last, the final brick has been laid. Behold!

(Unfortunately, stonesense refuses to show more then 3 z-levels at a time, so until I figure that out, we won't be able to see the full hammer. Also, its top level is the top level of the map exactly. It's almost like I planned it that way.)
4th Felsite, 1074
I have assigned more engravers, as no one was doing that chore. This explains why none of our memorial slabs were getting engraved.
7th Felsite, 1074
The last of the slabs(designated before my term as overseer) has been engraved. Now for the construction.
13th Felsite, 1074
All the unrestful dead have been put to rest. Huzzah!

14th Felsite
A blacksmith has been taken by a secretive mood!

He has claimed a Magma forge!
24th Felsite, 1074
The blacksmith has begun his item! I wonder what he will make?

I have also begun slaughtering the unowned animals, as we have far too many of them.
28th Felsite, 1074
Today, our blacksmith paraded his creation in the meeting hall. Batôk Tizöt, the Problem of Shanks. It is a magnificent adamantine weapon rack, worth an amazing 728400.

That's it for spring folks. I'm getting between 15 - 20 fps on my laptop, so we should see more updates coming as I can write them. If I am not eaten by Skyrim in the mean time. Comments and Critiques are welcome. Next: Summer!

The number "1" and "2" keys should expand and contract the viewing height. The readme.txt in the stonesense folder has all the rest if you're not just having a stonesense error. There are a lot of functions that aren't all that obvious for it to have.

Oh, and I think you did a good job with the log. Don't worry about spending too much time on it btw. I got too caught up on trying to make my entry half decent that my turn took way too long.

Yay!  Great to see ScrubbedCreams is still alive. And even kind of thriving.
