Limestone
I'm getting a few more supports put in throughout the fortress so as to not leave any open space wider than 5 blocks. I trust the miners and masons when they say It's nowhere near collapsing but it makes me feel a bit more at home here.

Sandstone
A bowyer made Kaskonad, an artifact blowgun. I remember hearing, in the tales of old, artifact crossbows and the like were able to fire an unbelievable amount of bolts. I doubt such things exist but I'd better look for someone with blowgun skill.

Timber
'Kosoth Kulalid' has come of age as a peasant.

The trade caravan has arrived. I thought they'd never make it.

Why would anyone want to buy orangutan blood?

I couldn't resist buying the cat leather hood. Some more useful things we traded for were leather, flux, steel anvils for melting, armor, and a few other miscellaneous things.

I've been checking the uniforms because I'm looking to expanding the socks and shoes requirement to a full set of clothing. A lot of people seem to be confused about socks and when you're supposed to put them on in relationship to shoes. Resulting in some people not wearing shoes on one or both of their feet.

I'm switching everyone over to the new full uniforms without socks. Some foot blisters may occur due to chafing but it's not nearly as bad as rotfoot.

Moonstone
I didn't think much of it when a few people mentioned feeling dizzy. I thought maybe a phantom spider was loose somewhere. Those that fell unconscious were looked over thoroughly for any FB extract at first. It seems they were all suffering from a recurring case of rotfoot with simply excessive bleeding this time.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Here's a list of people that bled to death from their feet in rapid succession.
Domas the farmer
Sodel the wrestler
Logem the bone carver
Minkot the Planter
Ilral the child (daughter of two militia dwarves Dastot and Zefon)
Athel Daselolon the child (daughter of Imush the miner and Stukos the macedwarf)
Bembul Tunrodim the child (daughter of Goden the miner and Rimtar the animal dissector)
Ast Inethoslan the Medical Dwarf

I fear this may be because of the change in uniform. When everyone went to grab new clothes they dropped their old boots and went to pick up new ones.

I still don't know what caused this most recent flare up. At least now I know to look for people that fall unconscious. Also to avoid mud?

Opal
Libash Alaklibash the child(Daughter of Feb the mason and Muthkat the doctor)

Zuglar the carpenter was taken by a fey mood and created Murakamen Unalbithsest the pine splint worth 8400☼

Obsidian
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
I'm having the masons improve the gateway to the third caves. I don't think it will stop people from falling unconscious out there though.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
The diplomat finished his talks with Conan.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Droves of us are falling unconscious. It seems they have nothing wrong and are just covered in water. Some have shoes and some don't. Some have been diagnosed with a beast sickness and some haven't. Maybe they're briefly coming into contact with the FB extract in the cleansing pools. Maybe they're getting mud on their feet(which seems to cause a rotfoot breakout) and it's washed off quick enough that their feet don't rot but they do fall unconscious. It might also be that those that already had their feet rot only fall unconscious when the conditions for a breakout happen.

This is infuriating! I would be content, If everyone could agree do stop what they're doing and clean every speck of blood, pus, extract, mud, and any other contaminant from the map but

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Dastot Kodlor the Marksdwarf bled to death in the same spot as the first few that died under my watch.
Zulban the swordsdwarf bled to death in the stairs just 7 z levels farther than Dastot got.

I'm having the masons cover the cleaning trench and stopping people from filling the mist generator. Hopefully that will help.

Well It's spring and all I've done is battle disease. Hopefully the next overseer has more exciting and less infuriating coflicts.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
This is where it seems most of the deaths come from.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
The state of the fortress

OOC: I think it's time to use the remove mud thing on DFHack. The next person might want to recruit a few more dwarf to fill the gaps created by the sickness and fill the gaps in our cave fortifications.

Entries of an anonymous overseer, Scrubbedcreams, discovered by Urist Bomrek, Slate, 1680
Early Summer, 1072

Such a strange and dreamy fort, tucked away on the icy tundra. Everyone seems to take their time with life.

Perfectly understandable, given how they seem to fall unconscious at the drop of a hat.

There has really been very little of interest - we've taken to holding parties whenever a work order is completed.  One small spot of excitement:

Nasty things, gremlins. It skulked in through what I assume is the plumbing for the hospital. I've ordered that temporarily walled off to prevent more incursions while I ponder what to do.

The latest celebration is inspired by a more noteworthy occurrence:

We all with Tostmithkat the best with her new boy.

So, more like a week than a few days. Sorry, guys and gals - life is a little crazy right now and not looking to settle down any time soon. I don't know how long a year is going to take at this FPS. If you want, I can post the save I've got now and the next person can take this up. We just finished Spring.

This is a -collection of tablets- containing entries of an anonymous overseer of the outpost Scrubbedcreams. The tablets are covered with images and writing depicting events in the year 1072.  The tablets are in -poor- condition, covered with ice, blood, frozen beast muck.

Early Winter, 1072

The past few seasons have been far more exciting than the spring was.  I have barely had time to write, so I will jot down all the events I can remember.

First, some child made a notable item of some sort. Ah, here it is.  She named it after himself, I remember now.  Well, Kib is known to be an arrogant and unimaginative child.  Who made a scepter.  I suppose she's got as good a chance at being appointed a noble as any other dwarf with a taste for panda leather and moons.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

One of the doctors spent nearly a week proclaiming how much he loved his crossbow to everyone he saw. I am beginning to become concerned about the standards of medical care in Scrubbedcreams. When would he even have used a crossbow?

Oh, and I found the source of the constant fainting and bleeding. Some poisonous remains were lugged into the fort and left in the bone stockpile.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I ordered the pile walled off.  Almost everyone in the fort has some sort of history with this 'beast sickness',

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

and we have no shortage...at this point the tablet is damaged beyond repair.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I had barely completed dealing with the wall than I realized that the hospital wells had run dry.  Our attempts to refresh the well led to terrible flooding down the central stairwell.  Time has eroded the first part of this sentence. ...at least one casualty, after the stairwell was usable...small pond to the north of the hospital.  No one will pull it out, unfortunately.

A chunk of the tablet is missing...all in all a success. I celebrated by ordering a hall of cleanliness to be built on the same level as the hospital plumbing...not ready, but the hall itself is coming along nicely.

An awe-inspiring cloth mask was created.  It will doubtless be useful for Nobletoberhttp://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=93873.msg2643919#msg2643919

The great event of the past few months was the attack of the Most Ancient and Terrible Beast Bodod.  Frozen muck obscures the runes...crawled in through a crack in one of the walls to the caverns, and nearly reached the lower fort before being intercepted.  The confusion and mayhem...A crack has destroyed the text...only able to commission one engraving of the battle:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Our military was effective - I ordered a squad of speardwarves...A tooth mark has damaged the runes...war dogs were key to our victory. They bravely sacrificed their lives to pin the beast down until it could be bitten and stabbed to death.

Bodod had a poisonous bite, judging by the sick dwarves...Frozen fluid obscures the runes...appears to have been a short-lived affliction.

And some weeks later, a military dwarf became named...at this point the tablet is damaged beyond repair....Good sense and good taste, I must admit, but I wish it could have been earlier.

i like this style of posting.  If you added in a character commenting on the tablets beign read that'd be awesome.  Sort of an indiana jones dwarf, finding the destroyed remains of this fortress and reading the damaged tablets the current overseer wrote.  Making his own remarks about what appears to have happened.

Also, how many war dogs and troops did we lose in the battle with the forgotten beast?  And...how exactly did it get in? :O  I thought we had everything securely walled off...'o.O

ive gotten in the habit of replacing my chief medical dwarf as soon as he gains any notable skill in diagnosis.
It's really funny watching them do unnecessary surgery because of a wrong diagnosis.
the conditions were bad enough to turn a dwarf who didn't care about anything mad, that's pretty hardcore.

Yeah, I think it's gotten too slow to keep going. A glorious death would be preferable but that might not be possible.

I think if we could get the water in the lowest cavern to stop flowing and use DFHack to clean up all the contaminants then that might help.

It's just it takes more time to complete a turn so there's less motivation to play through. It seemed like it took a whole day to complete a season on my turn and I like to think I have a good computer for running Dwarf Fortress.

define "whole day"?  Cause for me a whole day is playing from like 10 in the morning to the evening.  I could easily get a turn knocked out in two days that way.  (if only i had the time XD)
