ive gotten in the habit of replacing my chief medical dwarf as soon as he gains any notable skill in diagnosis.
It's really funny watching them do unnecessary surgery because of a wrong diagnosis.
the conditions were bad enough to turn a dwarf who didn't care about anything mad, that's pretty hardcore.

I'm downloading both saves as I speak. I just got done with the busiest day of my week so my turn should be finished post-haste.

Edit: Oh god. It's... It's so confusing. I hope I can wrap my head around it soon.

Edit: August 12, I've made some progress, mostly doing stuff like organizing the military and familiarizing myself with the fort. Stuff that doesn't go through many in game days. I have time today to hopefully at least knock out half my turn so if you don't hear from me soon feel free to pester me.

Log of "McGuinty" Egarsigun. Formerly Zasit

It looks like we need a new overseer and the guy scheduled to rule this year is dead.

I've heard of a clause in Dwarven law that allows your past crimes to be stricken from the record, in times of war. If a useful useless Dwarf dies you can take his or her job and first name.

Hahahaha, I'm the overseer now. They didn't even put up a fight... wait this seems fishy. Oh Armok, I never realized how hard this would be. I can do this though. We're doomed but at least it'll be interesting.

First order of business is to figure out what the heck is happening. I think I'll leave the previous leader to finish his meeting with the diplomat for the moment. They don't like the leaders to change in the middle of meetings.

We need more beds, coffins, support pillars, coherent stockpiles, and workshop locations. Let's see how well the military is set up too. Hm, it seems like the military was set up well but there are quite a few names scratched out of the lists. I think I get them back in shape.

Dwarven Domestic Legion
The Strengths of Clustering: Speardwarf squad (5)
Average skill: Competant

The Savage Trades: Swordsdwarf squad (5)
Average skill: Skilled

The Gilded Brothers: Axedwarf squad (5)
Average skill: Skilled

The Geared Locks: Macedwarf squad (5)
Average skill: Competant

The Orbs of Impunity: Marksdwarf squad (4)
Average skill: Competant

Dwarven Domestic Auxiliaries (for dealing with forgotten beasts)
The Abbeys of Swimming: Speardwarf squad (5)
Average skill: novice

The Puzzles of Clasping: Hammerdwarf squad (5)
Average skill: novice

The Urns of Clenching: Marksdwarf squad (4)
Average skill: Adequate

It looks like we need more marksdwarves. I think I'll look over the uniforms too before I start giving people orders.
Okay first the coffins... wait the mist generator isn't working. I think that takes priority. I'll have somebody look at that.

Multiple people have been found unconscious. No FB extract or wounds to indicate why. They weren't even drowsy. I think it's because of all the stuff in the caves that isn't forbidden. People keep going down there to pick it up. All of the cases show pus and blood on their feet when entering the caves. I didn't know what the previous overseers where on about when they told everyone to wear shoes and socks but now I think I know.

I think I've finally forbidden all of the things in the lowest cave and I gave everyone a military uniform of socks and shoes.

Oh thank Laltur it looks like the doctors are able to at least remove the rotten tissues. I hear they're working on Kogsak, one of our marksdwarves at the moment.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Good news everyone! The diplomat saw fit to elevate our lands to a duchy... More people fall unconscious every day so this gesture seems a little ridiculous.

Slate
The first casualty of the illness was a puppy being caged by Farmerbob. It was dragged over the weapon traps in the entrance and because it was unconscious it activated them.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Dwarves are piling up outside. After they set foot in the snow the illness takes hold. I don't know if it's the cold making their symptoms worse or if the cold is the cause of it.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Iden, the only one to wear their damn shoes
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

At least we're able to confirm (I guess once again?) that shoes help. The ones with a shoe on their left foot would only swell up with their right foot and only the people with shoes on were able to successfully recover the wounded.

The animals are attacking each other?! I didn't even know they would do that. I'm moving them to the caves where there's more for them to eat.

Our best surgeon was killed in a weapon trap due to being unconscious. I don't know how he got to the trap in the first place. Someone probably dropped him there.

Oh great now my feet are rotting. What the hell!

Onul, one of our legendary stone crafters fell unconscious on the weapon traps too. He didn't make it.

My feet healed up pretty quickly.

Felsite

A child bled to death. Her name was Aban Eshonshorast. Another one died. This one's name was Dodok ushrirnakas. I need to be more aggressive measures to stop this blight.

Inod Ducimdetes bled to death in the stairwell too.

The numbers of people unconscious in the hospital is down so I don't know why people are dying.

I used the one where the burial chamber was unfinished but I looked at the other one to see how you wanted it to look.

btw, the people that are bleeding to death, are they rotting?  If so it may be the necrosis from the flamingo FB's poisonous vapor

I don't know. I didn't find any extract on their person but this one's slow to develop. None of the people with rotting feet I saw had FB extract on them. It was just their or someone else's blood on their feet. I think it might be also that it changes their feet so when they get near any extreme temperatures their feet start to swell up and rot.

Also, I will be on vacation Thursday through Saturday and I'm starting a new job. I can get through another season tonight and tomorrow but it's slow going at Scrubbedcreams. I think I might overdo it with how much I pause.

yea the soldiers that got blasted didnt have any extract either.  Just lots of blood from various people and almost everything on them was rotting.  Just an idea anyway i could be wrong.  Have you tried the mist generator that someone mentioned earlier?

Yeah I've been trying to refill it but the emergency cleaning trench in the hospital hall took precedence.

Hematite

I'm performing my first surgery in a while. I didn't realize it but I was on the list of medical dwarves I had go back to work because of the outbreak. I'll just be fixing someone's hand so It won't be too jarring.

This kid Ilral is standing right where we need to build to get water to the wells. I'm going to have to talk to her parents.

Oh... her only relative is her sister Zon.

She was pestering me about something but I had to finish my meal first.

Bah, she says it was nothing and that Ilral is hanging out at the hospital with the rest of the children. Strange kids.

Tobul, our legendary woodcrafter withdrew from society and claimed a craftsdwarf's workshop.

Malachite

The illness seems to be calming down. Will you just look at all those empty beds. It's beautiful.

OOC: FPS is up to 40

Hmm, well Vabok Mebzuthroder died when she removed a wall above magma. All we know is that she had forgotten beast frozen extract on her and that the blood trail starts on the floor right above magma that used to have a wall on it. Udib Oksazir died of hunger in the barracks too. Everyone is always just fine whenever I'm checking in on them but then they keel over when nobody is there to see how they died.

The mist generator is functional again. I seems to leak a bit of water from the south pumps but that's no matter.

Galena
There are still a few cases of rotfoot. Mostly in children who cannot be drafted to the citizens clothed brigades.

There are finally adequate supplies for the hospital. When I first came to power we didn't have any plaster or soap. I think I'll tell the miners to move the jail a bit farther away from the hospital while I'm here.

I stopped in to see what all the noise in the barracks was about and a few of the military stopped me and complained about their long patrols. I told them they were doing well and that I will try to work something out. I left them to their very noisy training and went on my way. I think I'll put more of the fine work of our masons in the barracks. They get every third month off, most of the squads only have to have three of the four squad members there at a time, and we were already in the process of engraving their walls. They should be fine for now.

Wow, autumn is already here.

I'll be going at it tonight. I think I can get another season done. It feels like it takes a whole day to do a season. I'll try not to fiddle with stuff too much while it's paused for the rest. That may be part of the reason.
