It's really funny watching them do unnecessary surgery because of a wrong diagnosis.
the conditions were bad enough to turn a dwarf who didn't care about anything mad, that's pretty hardcore.

Okay. Am I using the save in Ghills' post, or is there a more recent one?

Honestly at the time, I didn't see what could go wrong with crowding 80 military Dwarves into a small room with a necromancer for the purpose of making bacon.

Okay, got it, haven't looked over the fortress itself yet. Framerate isn't as bad as I expected, ~30 with temperature on and ~50 with it off. About 30 idlers at the moment, expecting the FPS to crash hard once I start doing things.

Depending on how well I can deal with the FBs (Uker could ruin my day mightily), I might or might not use autodump to shift everything in the caverns. I'll definitely be using cleanowned to make all the useless clothing crap dumpable. Sound like a plan?

You're getting 30 FPS?  :o

I really need a new computer.

Sounds like a plan, my man.  I got a bit of a start on autodumping the cavern contents. Be warned, some of it's got goo on it.

30 FPS is freaking beautiful.  The highest i've ever had in the history of me playing this game is 20.  30...thats like...warpspeed.

Should be finished by tomorrow. So far I've cleaned out the third cavern layer and I think I've got all the edges walled off, and I'm doing the same to the first. It looks as though three trees have grown in just the right spots to seal four of the five FBs on the map in their starting positions, and the other one in the plumbing is now sealed in there via cavein.

I've got an idea for dealing with extract-covered items, but if I run out of time I guess I'll just use DFcleanitems. The idea I have is to dump contaminated items in a pit with checkerboard walls and then pump water through it. In theory this should transfer the contaminants to the walls, which can then be cleaned by removing them. I just want to see if it can be done legitimately first.

Haven't lost any haulers. Lost a bunch of dwarves to the dwarf dip around the third cavern layer (two syndromes that cause explosive bleeding? Really, game?), but nobody seemed to care.

It helps that out of a fortress of 174, only 5 are drinking right now.

Nah, I'm just trying to see what FPS I can claw back without having to worry about exploding dwarves or elephant-charging maniacs or playing and screencapping at the same time. The front gate has been locked all year and no FBs have come in, and there's just nothing happening except masonry and dumping. Oh, and half the civilians are wearing elven breastplates. I'll be needing to purchase more of those -- the Autumn delivery is just around the corner.

Sorry this is a little late.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
I didn't even know this place was here. Has it been here the whole time? Yay, more crap to send dwarves scurrying halfway up and down the map and spending days on a single trip. I think a little light entertainment is in order.

I see no way in which this can go wrong.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Uh, you going to do something about that?

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Fine.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Look how far it got. Naturally it chose to do this on the only route between the caverns and the atomsmasher, so I ended up drafting the whole fortress hoping for a lucky crit to the skull.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Luckily, I had one dwarf with a pick. There's only one miner at the moment, because they don't bother with anything but their picks and that makes them vulnerable.

After that I gave the swordsdwarves some weapons for dealing with the larger animals, but the axedwarves did get to beat a war lion and a bunch of elves to death. They are all armed now. The elves didn't come in Winter, and either they left early in Autumn or didn't turn up then either. I was rather hoping for a little more excitement.

Anyway, there's a batch of dumping just finishing up, since I found ANOTHER section of crap-crammed cavern. This is all the loose armour-type things, and after you pull the lever you'll need to go into the stocks screen and take the dump designation off whatever's still there.

Framerate has improved considerably -- I think it's doubled, although since the only jobs that have been going all year are weaving and brewing some of that might be lost when normal function is restored. There are three slab engraving jobs queued in the large room on level 41 but I'm not sure if there are any slabs to be engraved, and there's a quantum pile of stone on level 40 by the huge room of wtf. I didn't have time to bring it all up to the smasher. I also cleaned units, items, and the map in DFhack just before saving for the last time, so there should be a little boost from that. There are also some traffic designations up to prevent the pathing from trying to go through the caves, and the chunk of cavern in the first pic is sealed off with a bright red floor.

Here's a before and after of the stocks screen, if you're interested.

I don't think anyone is next, sadly. ScrubbedCreams is awesome, people!  Don't let the glacier, the sketis and the war with the elves get you down!

I would really like to be able to do something. I may try downloading the latest save and seeing how much FPS has improved.  I'm just super busy, and not looking to get any less busy any time soon.  >.<   Mandatory unpaid overtime is a terrible, terrible thing.

I think that's for the best.  If we can get this rolling again maybe we can get some people interested.
