Entry #9 - Swan Song
8th of Sandstone, 1070
At last! The battle has ceased! We are victorious! The battle was fierce, and bloody. Many a dwarf has lost their life. I estimate the casualties to be around 30. Three Forgotten Beasts attacked us at once. From the west came a great beast of steam. In itself not the deadliest of creatures but its swift attacks scattered our forces, making them easier to kill. From the flooded caverns came a great feathered lizard that lead many of our soldiers to a watery grave. And finally, from the south came the most vicious and deadly beast of them all. A great flamingo who's deadly vapors gave our men necrosis; however we didn't know it at first. We won, but the battle was not without heavy casualties.
First we engaged the being of steam. It quickly fell bout our army had been split into several small squads on 3 or 4. Next attacked the Flamingo. It flew over our heads and over our walls and penetrated our defenses with ease. Although we killed it swiftly, it was not before it showered us in its deadly vapors. We did not think much of it at the time, but the creatures true power quickly became evident.
And finally, there was our battle with the great feathered lizard. Many good dwarves died in that battle, including our beloved katana
who wore 3 different pieces of artifact armor into battle. None of which have been recovered since. We where victorious, but at a terrible price. I fear another victory like that will mean the end of Scrubbedcreams. Our military has been decimated. Most squads lost over half of their soldiers and 1 squad was whiped out entirely. Many civilians died too. Infact, too many to count. Of course, you wouldn't know it now. The battle was early in the year, and since many migrants have braved the danger and come to live and die in Scrubbedcreams. Several more artifacts have been made however the fortress is still in disorder from the battle, and thus there are no records of them. The tragic part is that many of the lost lives could have been avoided, if we had simply known of the flamingo's deadly vapors. It was not until the 15th of Sandstone that we realized what was causing all of our dwarves to die these horrible deaths. I immediately commissioned a clean up operation, but something went horribly wrong.
20th of Sandstone, 1070
CLOSE THE GATES!!! PULL THE LEVER!!! I don't know what or how it happened, but the result is horrible.
Armok smiled upon us that day, for only 1 dwarf lost his life in the great flood of 1070.
3rd of Granite, 1071
The rest of the year seemed to pass like some sort of surreal dream. Migrants arrived, artifacts where created. I commissioned the creation of a burial chamber for myself and katana, however the project was never finished. My work here is finished. I am hanging up my mantle. I'm passing the burden of leadership on to another dwarf. May fortune shine upon you, and make your time as overseer happier than mine.
END OF ENTRY #9
OOC: Files comin up =)
EDIT:
So i have 2 files for you here. The 1st file has the burial chamber unfinnished and starts on the 3rd of Granite (end of my turn). You can find it here:
I decided to copy the save and keep going for the lulz just to finish the burial chamber. If you want to use or look at what the chamber was SUPPOSED to look like, you can find that file here:
The 2nd file also has description of where the burial chamber is, however i doubt itll be hard to find. And you'll likely recognize it immediately. HF with Scrubbedcreams!!!
