Sutremaine's mist generator still works, just blocked up. I can get it unlocked when necessary.

20th Sandstone

I've given up on trying to clean the fortress. I'm just going to dig out two layers of stockpile area for future use and hope that sometime later an overseer will get around to sorting everything out.

I've also started digging towards the blue ore. We already have hit the walls of the pillar and for safety measure I have (secretly?) walled in a miner in case of any lava flow or such.

Also, today we've gotten a group of migrants, despite the danger. Seven measly dwarves. I've told the idlers to get those levers pulled to let them in, hopefully the cage traps and whatnot will stop any other enemies from coming in.

17th Timber

Caravan and liason has arrived. Also, my attempt at mining out the adamantine has failed. We did yield two stone but then magma flowed in. I'm redesigning the tunnel as of now.

25th Timber

We have bought out the caravan with our crafts, new-ish clothes, and partly worn out clothes. To let them bring better stuff next year I gave them an 8K profit. I have also noted that we're importing steel and steel-making ingredients. Since I dunno how to make steel and don't want to mess up in the process of doing so, I'll leave steelmaking for the next overseer.

However, we did get two or three finished steel bars so I'll get a steel weapon made. I'm going to take a poll of what we should make and who gets it.

Also, on a side note, no deaths so far.

Our miner, now working alone, has resumed the push towards the blue ore.

Quick guide to steelmaking:

1. Order steelmaking jobs until the smelter runs out of materials.
2. Count up how much calcite/marble/dolomite/chalk/limestone is available.
3. Halve the count and order that many pig iron jobs via the manager.
4. Repeat step 1.

I vote for a steel helm and a steel mail shirt for Atir, and for axes wait until adamantine is available.

Since I am nearly done with my turn I'll leave the smithing of the steel to the next overseer.

Overall, a slow, boring year where I just helped the fortress regain its independence from caravan foods, etc. All our squads are now training since they were idle anyways and I'll just let the next overseer deal with the gobs when they arrive.

Unknown date

Some random jeweler was taken by some mysterious force and ran to the nearest jeweler's shop and grabbed some stuff and started.

I looked at the list of stuff he was working with.

Turns out he's using an ARTIFACT JEWEL in his construction, which will obviously be artifact.

We're taking bets for the final price count of the thing. Apparantly he has a name for it already:

26th Obsidian

He's done! I've yet to take a look.

What. In. Armok. A red pyrope hatch cover.

I wouldn't really care but for the fact that it's worth even less than the artifact perfectly-cut jade he used. Jade was worth 52800. This is worth 48000. It's even less interesting to look at.

I'm going to delegate him to mining duty. Time to give a last try to open up that adamantine vein.

2nd Granite

Apparantly there's been a misvote and I have been reelected as mayor. As the last original founder, I'm fine with that since I'm tired and just want to laze in my room for the rest of my life. Maybe do a bit of farming. I could try marksdwarfmanship in my spare time...

However, I feel like my position as the fortress overseer is too tiring. Even though nothing really happened this year. I'm going to drop it off on the next unsuspecting dwarf I meet...

A few notes for the next overseer.

1) The path for the adamantine mining attempt two has been laid out, but you will need to micromanage the mining since the miners don't trust that the areas I designated to be dug will not allow magma in. (hot stone)
2) Only one guy is designated to mine, and that is the gem setter that I described just in the last update.
3) Stockpile room is between the upper surface and the lower farms, bedrooms, etc. Its undesignated or inaccessible so that the lone miner doesn't go dig out those sections, instead just the adamantine tunnel.
4) Ammo pile is on the surface, 1 z-level above ground on the main building cover. Weapon and armor are in the sparring area.
5) about a third to a half of the fortress is drafted and sparring. Let them be, we'll need a large military and they'll be the ones to fight. You may take out the manager and broker, but please leave me inside and chronicle my last days fighting since I dwarfed the last founding father.
