Also, you probably haven't set it up to be flooded with magma on a regular basis. Pitchblende is, of course, magma-safe, so toss a pitchblende mechanism with a pitchblende block and iron/steel/platinum/some other metal bucket and chain and you're good as long as you have a way to drain the water so you don't have to worry about obsidian. Or just put your well behind a door.

This is why I like lead buckets, pots and barrels and why I am always sad if the mother civilization can't offer pitchblende. It's so rare on most maps that I usually would have to bring it with me on embark or to import it.

Pitchblende ought to be fairly harmless in its solid state, though inhaling the dust created by extracting it would be another matter.

Never used Dwarf Therapist, mods or tilesets in all the years I've been playing.
I think Toady's confusing interface better simulates the experience of a bunch of disorganised drunken dwarves running a fort.
